That's what's supposed to happen. The prop is most efficient when pushing straight ahead. Excessive trim angles are always slower. It's very possible that more setback will help, but like Chris said, need a bunch more info.

6" plate is fine on that boat. i'd look for a good 24 or 25 tempest.
trim setting on that rig is normal for that boat. they will be faster at 3/4 trim.

I have a 10 inch jackplate and i was wondering if it would be worth trying, i dont want to spend any more money on a new prop.....

gonna depend on which "model" your ranger is.

example. i had a 481V years ago. with a 10" plate the boat was as fast as a 461vs. but the transom broke (too much setback)
ranger fixed that transom and we put a 6" plate on it. it lost 2-3 mph vs the 10" plate.

since you already have a 10" plate it never hurts to try it. it's just time and silicone.

I put the 10 inch plate on and i gained 1 mph.... But i hit something in the river and bent my prop bad and it bent my prop shaft bad..... I'm gonna claim insurance on it... Should i get a tempest or the fury...?
