Hey guys, I had an earlier post about lack of power on my stratos, ended up beeing the throttle cable, was replaced and have a ton of power back. I've been looking at props, first run was with a trophy 23 pitch small diameter with the weed ring, performed fairly well with great hole shot, only problem was the lack of RPM, was only turning 5200RPM running 55MPH, with my 225 4 stroke yamaha was running 60MPH with a 21 pitch prop. New motor is a fresh build 225 Optimax witch dynoed in at 240HP at the prop. Yesterday I tried a 23 pitch large diameter vengeance prop, RPM went up 100 but boat lost 8MPH

Here is the question I have, would running a 21 pitch prop increase my speed, I assume my RPM would go up 400-500, but will it increse my speed as well? Any other ideas, only other prop I can borrow is a 23 pitch Tempest and dont want to spend cash on a useless prop, boat weighs in at 1800 pounds + gear and gas

Thanks for your help

these are the most affordable that i have seen, its hard to say what prop for you because of so many variables,do you ski or tube with 5 people in the boat?or do you mostly fish with just you and a freind?best approach is to pick one that will be best all around, that being said i would steer you towards a 4 blade, they have way better bite for holeshot when loaded, better cruise speed and only lose a few mph on top end over a three blade.many prop dealers will allow you to exchange your new prop for one of a different pitch, provided it is unmarked when you return it.

Your boat is not very light and you have a lot of power. For better overall performance and faster I would try a prop with more 'ear' (size). You can find a good, low cost used prop in a Yamaha 'm' pro style, T-1, and Turbo lightning. 14.5-14.75 dia. They all have good stern as well as bow lift. You can always add or enlarge the PVS holes to greatly help your hole shot if needed. Mercury and Yamaha props are interchangeable. JMO

PS. You need to give more details....What is setback? What is engine height to pad at? What lower unit you running? Just going higher up with still safe level of water pressure can help you spin a higher pitch prop faster and give more top end.

Good luck.........
