I've done some research here on the possibility of getting a high five prop for skiing and carrying a load. I have a '86 Stoker SST w/ 1997 Mercury 225 Pro Max w/ a sportmaster lower unit that spins a 26" Lightening ET @6600rpm in the low to mid 80's. I've got 10" of setback with the props haft just below the pad. Skiing w/ the ET is not usually a problem, the holeshot is OK. The problem is with small kids or heavier skiers. I briefly tried my brothers 24" High Five and I liked the holeshot but, it seemed to have a lot of slip before hooking up. Now I'm not sure on the dimensions of either his prop or my gearcase and I wasn't able to play around with the vent plugs. But if my gearcase is 4.5" and his prop a small hub, would a large hub prop get more bite? I've heard that the odd # pitch props are large hub, so do you think a 25" prop would be a good choice? Please let me know what you think.
thanks, Bill.

ya never know till ya try it...if you can get your hands on a shooter that prop works well for sure as an all around load carrier/skier kinda prop

2.5 stoker-
Thanks for the reply. As far as the setback goes it handles great. I built my own setback plate with 4", 6", and 10" side plates so I could play around with different amounts of setback, mainly to balance the boat when I changed from the 235 Rude to the Pro Max. I do get a little bit of porpoising at top speed but you can easily trim it out. Al told me not to go with that much setback but, I seems to work OK for me. Since my boat is stored at the river and not in my garage would you know if that Sportmaster is a 4.5" gearcase?

For skiing and pulling kids etc. bet a 23 would be the ticket.

I run a 21" high five on my Baker RST for skiing. All the vent holes are plugged and it has great take-off power. Pulled 2 wakeboarders out of the hole last week. I think the motor has about 12" of set-back (measured from the back of the pad).

I have a Checkmate 2100BR with 12" of set back and a Sportmaster gear case. I tried a High 5 for skiing and, while it pulled good, it had way too much slip at wakeboard speeds. I now use a mod’ed Bravo I with PVS holes. It is by far the best heavy load, ski/tubing/wake board prop for my setup.

I also ran a 24 small hub on a 18.5 Stoker type hull with OMC power. I also found that it slipped badley.
I found that merc made a exhaust ring that goes over the hub and stops the exhaust gases from making the prop slip.
It worked for me not sure about your lower, but it only cost around $30.00 nzdollars ($15us?) so could be worth looking into.
It was a stock Merc part for small hub Trophy props I think.
