Hello, I am new here, this is my first post. I have purchased velocity stacks for my 200hp black max, they are on there way in the mail. today I pulled off the cowl and noticed that the bottom lever, and starter cable are connected to the air box that needs to come off when the stacks are installed, also at the top there is an electronic device connected to the top of the air box. someone at bobsmachine told me the stacks will have a hole to mount the lower bracket that connects the front of cowl cover, but how do we take care of the top part? do I need to relocate the electronic device at the top?

All I ever run is old mid 80's Mercs....If it wasn't for the "oldies", I would be out of the boating business.....

The black box at the top of the air box is a timing advance/idle stablizer module. I would figure out some way to relocate it.
I like using them on stock motors..... if the motor drops to 500 rpm at idle, it advances the timing and tries to keep the motor running..... and at around 5800 rpm, it advances your timing and lets the motor run better on top end.
When you adjust your timing, you're suppose to unhook it.

Hi tim, I received the stack in the mail yesterday, getting ready to mount them, relocatiing the timing advance/idle stablizer module, does it need to remain flat like it is, or can it be mounted anywhere? whats common place to move it to?
thanks!

You can mount it anywhere, any position......
The two things to consider, make sure the wires will reach the switchbox and make sure it will clear the cowling.
Last time I put stacks on (many years ago??) I built a bracket that attached to the top two carb mounting studs & left it in the same location.

also, the lower stack has 2 bolts for mounting the front cowl cover hinge, but they are about 1 inch off from fitting, is one bolt enough to hold hinge in place?

You DO REALIZE that the only thing velocity stacks are going to do is look cool when you have the cowl open, right? If you are thinking performance increase you are going to a lot of trouble for zip.

You get a lot of intake and reed noise too. Be sure as heck to cover them up when trailering too, especially on dirt roads. You will trash your motor with dust and contaminate otherwise, it sticks to all the oil and spit-back that the stock air box normally catches. You will be cleaning under there a lot more too.

I was under the impression that you were better off to remove the idle/advance module and throw it in the bush anyway. The way I understand it is that if it goes bad it can go to full advance and burn your motor down.Just what I've read.
