I've been meaning to go through the fuel pump on this motor, Because i've only had the engine for a year and i know the previous owner didn't do any maintenance on it. I've already replaced all fuel lines and filter. And all other tune up and normal maintenance things.
I've never did one of these pumps, but i have did some diaphragm style pumps before a few years back. Engine runs perfect now. Never had an issue. Should i worry about the fuel pump. And If i should do i just need to get a diaphragm kit.

I'd go for the repair kit as it comes with check valves, gaskets, diaphragm and some other small parts. Basically replaces everything but the housing. I think it cost under $20.00 from us. Glad to help if we can.

depends on what you buy. You can get it with or without the check valves and small parts.

So i got the sierra kit from Iboats...
I got a new Merc manual for this engine(Ithought). And it's not the one i needed .... I have a Seloc and Mercury service manual for my old Blackmax... Will those manuals get me through the fuel pump? It didn't look intimidating at first. But when i got the new kit its got some little parts lol... I was going to tear into it yesterdday but realized my books where here at work. I'm going to go through them now. And see if they will help me.
I'm pretty sure they will, i guess there is a round pump or a square pump.. And i think both my engines have square ones.
Thanks Kyle

Oh another thing... I've never had an issue with this engine running. And now It seems if i sit very long i have to pump the ball before it will stay running. Do they have like a anti drain back valve somewhere.
I thought there used to be one in the connectors But this engine don't have a connector anywhere. I guess my carbs could be bleeding off :/ And if i don't pump the ball it will start.. And when i take off it will start stumbling. I kill it right then and pump the ball .. And then it fires right up and i take off fine. Runs great other than that... Hopefully this fuel pump will change that. Or someone can give me another idea on what to do.

And can i clean this up with carb cleaner, Or is that too harsh for the diaphram?

Got the fuel pump kit in.. And fuel filter and down trim relay. Everyhing is good one that end. After i got it all done and put it on the hose i was getting ready to start it and noticed i forgot to put one of those plungers back in so i had to tear it all back down  But it works great:D
Sorta mad.. I replaced all the fuel lines and primer ball last year on memorial day. And alot of the line are weather cracked and i'm guessing my check valve in the primer ball is not working correctly. I still have to pump the ball of if shut it down for awhile. So i'm going to replace all that next.

Mostlikely the check valve in the primer bulb is leaking down, otherwise the fuel would stay in the line above (after) the ball.
