View Full Version : Head bolt question?
What grade stainless is the crap Mercury makes there 3 liter head bolts from. These bolts aren't just regular bolts! My shop manual tells me to torque to 30ft lbs then rotate to another 90 degrees???? How do you know what torque you have achieved? ARP has a stainless 12 point bolt rated at 170,000 tensile strength, the correct length and everything M8 x 90. Has anyone tried these? They come in pack of five and they are polished for half the price Mercury wants for there's..............any comments will be welcomed:confused::confused:

Standard bolts run $3.37 each from us. To find what torque you're actually pulling at the 90 degree point simply use a torque wrench that has a gauge. Several companies make them and there no more expensive than a standard break away style.
