Gauge "Bench Tests"

Is there a way to bench test a tachometer? Or a fuel gauge? I'm not going to rerig my boat to test a couple of gauges that I have for sale, but that's the only way that I know of to check them.

For the fuel gauge, just hook up the positive and neg should read empty, cross the sender lug to ground and it should read full. With the tac, you will need an alternator signal....... you could fire up the motor with the sender wire attached to the tach output on the motor
