Was wanting to know if any of you guys on here know how I can tighten up the slop/flop in my stearing on my I/O It has power stearing or power assist im not sure witch one. I do know it has a power stearing pump and I made sure it was full of fluid but when its on the trailer I can swing the out drive left and right a good bit before the stearing wheel moves and i figured that this could not be good. Any help would be greatly appreaciated.

Mercruiser make a repair kit with templet drill and tap the gimbal housing so u can tighten the bolt to take the slope out and just put plastic plugs in when done . I will look for part # . Good luck

depending on year
if you have a steering pin that is square / splined , wore causes slop
you'll want to upgrade to a square / square
as soon as I find the mercury kit number I'll post it

Basically it is as easy as tightening a nut, cutting the holes to get to it is another story, if you are comfortable with tools you should be OK

I like to think of my self as a handy man. My phelousefy is. If I can't fix it I can phuck it up good enough no one else can. The hole bit is it the same as the ones used to install door knobs in new door slabs or is it a special metal bit.

Same concept, smaller size, I would get a sharp new one made for metal in whatever size the kit tells you to.

the top nut is a lock nut , only to not allow the pin from falling out
the slop is coming from the gimbal ring bolts and steering arm bolt
if you can get them tightened a little bit it will help
otherwise gimbal ring KIT with all the new parts
and about 4-8 hours of labor pending techs ability
while your in there change out the bellows , most likely will need
inspect shift cable and u-joints and gimbal bearing
