I want add an electric fuel pump for my carbed Mercury 200 - It currently uses the stock diaphragm fuel pump. I'd like to add the electric pump to eliminate the primer bulb and to ensure pressure. Do I need to remove the original and block it off ? I'd prefer to keep the stock pump there but I'm open to the pros and cons... I know holleys have higher pressure that the stock and needs a regulator - ebay has some universal pumps that only push 3-5 psi...
Thanks for any input!

If your going to eliminate the oe pump. Just cap it and leave it there,(you may want it someday when your up the river and the electric one quits).I would recomend the holley with regulator. I have tried a few of the $30.00 4.5psi pulse models on some of our equipment, lasted a couple hours, to a couple weeks.--JUNK!

You can add elect pump to your stock pump and use both. Keep in mind stock pump may not be able to suck fuel through the elect pump if it is not running.

Use the Carter street pump. I have for years and it has worked great and you dont need a regualtor. I have had problems with Holley pumps.

I just put in my first Carter after going through many Holley Reds--can't say how the Carter will do, used it based on reading other recommendations here, particularly Marcus. Salt eats everything.

Good info, thanks for getting the ebay generic pump off my list... I was just concerned with putting too much pressure thru the stock pump - I don't want to block it off. When I was a kid my step father had a holley run to the stock fuel pump on a blackmax 200 and he would turn off the electric pump when idling - so it wouldn't load up. He would flip it on when he was ready to "take off". I'll check out the Carter - Thanks again

What's the advantage of an electric pump?

I like just a electric pump.I shut it off as I come in to beach,or just as I dock.Let the motor idle for a moment, then when you trim the motor up the carbs don't spill over and make a mess inside the cowl.

I see Summit has a knock off Holley for around $80 (looks identical) - anyone ever use that that one? I just redid all the wiring on my Viper - it was an electrical nightmare. What size fuses should I use for bilge, fuel pump, lights?
I did some research and got different results:
Fuel pump 7.5 for an inline - 10 amp for fuse block...
3 amp for bilge
5 amp for nav/gauge lights
I'm using 8 gauge wire to bring to the panel and 16 gauge to each circuit.
Thanks!

Can you send me a link for the Carter pump - I don't think I'm looking at the right one...

Yup, that's the one you want. It works perfect just by itself. I have a pressure guage inline in my setup but that's just me because I was wondering what pressure it puts out. You really don't need the guage.

You can use this one too. It's not the marine version but will work and save you a couple bucks. it's the one I have.

I need to add an electric also. Will I be able to find anything generic at the local AutoZone/Oreilly/Advance/NAPA store which will fit the bill? 4-6 PSI?

Ordering online from Jegs or Summit will be at your door in well under a week (3-4 days) - Autozone/Advance seems to carry mostly high pressure fuel injection pumps for specific applications - if available they would likely need to order it anyway. Check their websites - I checked Autozone with no luck.

Don't go with a generic pump and chance it. Spend the extra bucks and get what works. The last thing you want is for it to fail out somewhere by yourself. Bring a good paddle.

Thanks. That's kinda what I was finding. I will check around town tomorrow and post anything promising. Was hoping to get my replacement 2.4 powerhead running tomorrow while I had some help. Only other option is to use the factory fuel pump from the 2.0 I am replacing. Are these the same as on the 2.4s?

Even worse would be for the generic pump to not deliver enough fuel and have it run lean at high RPM. Do you know how to say "EXPENSIVE REBUILD"?
