In the middle of the 1970s Mercury had a Bendix mechanical injection on the T3 race engine. This continued on until the EFI injected motors came on the scene for the race engines probably in the early 1980s. OMC ran some Benix units on their CCC race engines in the late 70's also, even though this fact is not widely known and is disputed by some OMC collectors now. I have access to a picture of a Bendix equipped OMC. Look at post #115 on page 8 of this thread for a picture: http://www.screamandfly.com/showthread.php?42987-1750xs-questions/page8

Cus EFI is way better.
Galen Burden did a bunch, mainly for Alky motors

What RBT said. Galen said it was better than carbs for methanol but efi was a better mousetrap

Lets go a little further with what Galen said. When the computer people started giving us ways to make our own fuel curve EFI came into it`s own. Mechanical injection would be a way to go for the simplicity of it as well as cost but only if there was a weight break for it.
Anyhow thats what he told me and i have no reason to doubt him. Ro Yale told me that he and Galen had the top end rich problem solved with some sort of valve but it was about the time that EFI computers got user friendly so it was a little to late.

There was a guy at the Rumble some years ago running an OMC V6 on a small hydro with a homemade aluminum midsection and homemade intake plenum made from WOOD with mechanical aircraft bendix injection. It was loud and mean.

AKA Jon Wright, he made his own setup called the Wright Device. It was marketed, and sucessfull Till EFI came along. He was also one of the fastest outboards on the planet.
Yep, that was him. Thanks Rob. ;)
