Well, first i'd like to say im very glad i found this site. Its seems to be a wealth of information, and very cool rides..I posted another thread in here the other day that didnt bring much interest. But i have been reading and looking and have come up with a few questions for you mercury guys..Ok,let me tell you my situation.I have bought a 20' vts from my buddy with a mod vp engine on it.It is a new rebuild and got a piston upon break in,they didnt know it ran on race fuel somehow, but it is what it is. My buddy was telling me to just get a powerhead and put on it and ride out. Well i was on here looking and have determined that i could just get a complete engine for just a little bit more money..So i am on here looking and i was wondering about the custom tunes you guys use for custom efi engines? Is there any hardware/software that i would need to buy if i was to get a engine with a custom tune? If i had to to buy software that may determine what im gonna need. And any input on engine selection would be great. I am looking in the for sale section and seem to be drawn to the 97 260 and the mad efi engine.Dont really know exactly what im gonna need but am looking not just for a race engine but one me and my family, buddies can go out and have a good time with and not break something every outing..lol...What you guys think???

Did it hurt the cylinder? I would just fix it if it were me. My BP has 3 sleeved cylinders in it and it runs great.

Well here's the issue with that..First it runs on 110 and that will hurt fast.I allready got a race car runnin on c16 so i know that pain. And my buddy i got the boat from tells me that it's not really a lake boat motor. He says that it wont do very well transitioning from low to high throttle. Its more geared toward wide open throttle...

What cylinder compession do you have? If it is too high just put a different set of heads on it. You can go as high as 145 and still run 91 with no problem.

I'm sure there would be a lot of people on here that would trade you for your Mod VP motor for their fishing motor if that is what you want. I wish I had one to trade you.

Well if you have a race car you should be able to work on it yourself from all the info you can get on here. If its messing up then get on here and post what its doing and someone will be able to help you or atleast point you in the right direction. I use my BP for every day running with tubes or just flat out hauling a$$. I just have 2 different props depending on what I'm doing.

There is a guy in summerville who works on them, his name is mike sheppard(sheppards marine). If you were interested in fixin the bad hole and swappin the heads to make it more user friendly.
