I need advice

This is my first time ever to this site. My best friend told me this is the best place to find answers!? So my question is, I have found a donzi 32 foot center console with twin 225 optimax (2000 model). I have found so much negative talk about this motor that now I'm looking at other boats. Was this yr and model really as bad as what iv been reading? I just want to make sure I don't buy a motor that will leave me stranded 50 miles out in the ocean!

From what I have heard and read the 2000' year optis had a problem with the fuel injectors and a cold cylinder. The latter was the most prevalent. They seemed to come apart and damage the piston and so on, hence the name (optibomb) The Merc Service uptdate will tell the tale to see if has had the updated ECU flash and so on. If you are truly interested take it to a REAL merc service shop and have it put on the scanner and check serial #'s for these....Im no pro however, i just had 2 cents to give....Sam

There was also a re-design on the air pumps on the 3L motors (200+HP). A much needed bearing was added and will be a big reliability upgrade. Have that same real Merc mechanic spoken of in above post check into seeing if they have the new pumps.
