No BS liars here. Vote in the poll! If you have several boats, vote for the fastest one.

0-55.. the boats in the shop (my garage), getting restored. hoping to go around 70 though when its finished.

12-24-2002, 06:23 AM
highest ive done with a gps in the boat was 91.7 so thats where i fit in, maybe i should take out all the boating junk  the cooler full of "chilled beverage" doesnt help :D

12-24-2002, 10:09 AM
If I took out the 6 speakers (two 6x9's, two 10's in big boxes, two amps,(800 watts, soon to be 1000 watts),cd player, equlizer, carpet, anchor, chilled beverages, paddle etc. mabey I could run a little faster, but then what would I do when parked at the beach or floating and consuming?

12-24-2002, 10:37 AM
Rich Owen's Vector regularly does 90. His motor is a 98 150 promax ss. That is a 2.5 that turns almost 7 grand. The motor is entirely stock including oil injection. I run with Rich regularly and all numbers are real.

Last Sat (12/20) I ran 90.3 with a 28" Ron Hill @ 6700 rpms . Tried a 30" Mazco and ran 89.4 2 6100 rpms . I have a 6' manual plate and the 150 ProMax SS has 2" of setback built in . I run 1/2" above the pad (the top portion of the concave pad). This is 7/8" above bottom of the concave portion . The boat , motor , driver weighs 1630 lbs . These numbers are at sea level and 40 to 50 degrees air temperature . The motors run great this time of year . During the hot humid summer I run 88s and 89s . I have spun this motor @ 7000 rpms and not hit the limiter . I love ProMaxes (ProMax i ?)
On Sat we had 4 boats parked at the ramp . We took turns making passes , swapping props , swapping gear cases , and changing prop heights . It's great this time of year , no wakes or "no wake zones" to contend with ! We try to get out weekly .
To borrow a line from my friend Jim Thompson " FLY IT HIGH and FLY IT OFTEN "

Anybody over 126 MPH must validate their vote with boat and set up. I will go first at 134 MPH 2.5 350 HP MOD-U Lee Craft. I know there out there but I know there are a bunch of fibers too. It would be fun too see who these 126 135 boats are.

I just voted. My Gran Prix with Mod U Engine. We will be running a modified 2.5 powerhead provided by my crew chief a former F1 racer. I hope to have some fun this next season, and stay outta trouble. But then again who aint?

01-05-2003, 02:42 AM
You sure can paint when its 32 degrees out. It's 25 here, and I just painted a boat 3 days ago. Its called wood stove, and lots of wood....

01-05-2003, 08:08 PM

Rich - No insult intended. I have never seen it done & think I've been around. Every one I have seen rigged with a 150 would only run in the 70's.

Michael - None taken . I don't think all 150s are created equal .
A friend with a 2001 150 fishing motor on a Viper struggles to reach 75 mph . With more set up and seat time I'm sure he'll do better . (the boat has a huge porpoise problem that needs to be worked out)
When I got the Vector with a 1982 150 , 2.0 gear case and L&S nose cone I struggled to reach 78 mph . Put a 1990 2.4 200 hp power head on and went 92.3 mph and consistant 91s .
Depending who I talk to the 2.5 150 ProMax puts out 165 to 180 hp . ( Any of you motor gurus ever put one on a dyno ?)
At the CT River Run I spoke with John Tiger about this motor/boat combo and he didn't seem at all suprised I could run a consistant 90 mph .
The 2.4 200 and the '98 ProMax both meet APBA Factory Stock specs and have been inspected by NEODA . The heads have never even been off the ProMax .
Another plus of the ProMax , fuel mileage . We regularly do the 60 mile round trip CT River Run . With the 200 carb motor it would take a little over 18 gallons . The PM uses a little over 14 gallons .
All these numbers are the result of set up , set up , set up and seat time , seat time , seat time . Little , to no wind helps too . It doesn't take much to blow the Vector off the pad .
This set up dosen't work for the drags (with 8" total set back the hole shot's not great) but has carried a 150 lb passenger to 87 mph .
I use a Garmin 3+ .

I won't say what a 150 Evinrude will do! I'll just ask Talon,Action,and whoever else drove my HOT ROD:D :D :D

Don't know, don't care but...............I've got a 10 X 18 that should go above 115 on the LOOOOOOOOOOOOng course. Don't run that too often though, concentrate on gettin to 95 in a big hurry.

01-13-2003, 07:46 PM
Guess my last boat was a slowpoke at 98.3mph.. This new (old) boat should git me over the 100 I've been searching for.. Will have to wait till the water softens..

i know this is an old thread but what the heck...im in the 0-55 range...boat isnt put together yet...hoping for the 90+ range when its done
:D Ya like the oldest thread on Scream and fly probably.:D 2002:cheers: Actually you may have something hear Stoker. Maybe we need a new poll comparing the differences in numbers from 8 years ago to see if we got more boats faster now!!:thumbsup:150 you know how to do this right? Or if anyone else knows how we could use this thread as a comparison? Good or Bad Idea?? I think cool.

11-15-2009, 04:16 AM
sounds cool to me...how do we set it up?...just start a new poll?

11-15-2009, 07:00 AM
Oddly, the polls show dates farther back than threads.

I can run a new poll with identical options. Cool?

11-15-2009, 09:38 AM
do it up...it'd be interesting to see if the numbers change

11-15-2009, 09:55 AM
Best so far has been 81 gps with my tired old looper, and a 28ET copy....need a bigger prop to keep the motor down in the power range. :D
