Hi everyone,
I have a Sea Star 2.0 hydraulic system, and I replaced leaky glands on the ram. I used a mityvac bleeder to draw out the air, and the system seems to be working fine when the boat is on the trailer. I got the fill tube and oil from Teleflex and followed the instructions about poking a hole in the bottle and keeping it above the helm. But, when the boat is in the water, and underway, I find that I have to keep turning the wheel to the left to keep the boat going straight. I am constantly turning the wheel a little bit as the boat is traveling. I don't mean hold the wheel with pressure to the left, I mean actually turn it a tiny bit, and keep repositioning my hands and keep twisting it to the left.
Is this an air in the line issue, or is there a internal leak somewhere? There is no fluid leaking externally once I changed the glands.
Also, when the boat is on the trailer, if I grab the motor and twist it, the ram still moves about less than 1 mm. But, that tiny movement still translates into a fair amount of twist on the motor. Is that slight movement normal or should it be tight? It is actually the stem of the hydraulic cylinder moving slightly, not any loose bearings or bolts or anything on the motor.
