Stumbled on these two videos over on OSO. I knew they did the ski race there but this is the same course, boats only. No rules!
I always knew my Australian buddies were lunatics down there but here's proof.
Watch this open class cat bang through skinny ass turns in the narrow sections of the river.
In the 2nd video, watch the rooster tail when they finally get the bitch straightened out and their foot on the floor. Here's a lesson to you guys that think tall rooster tails are cool. These guys came with in a minute of the course record in this monster and that was with a spin!
I love that first video. True to be a classic. I think I've watched them boat a dozen times ;)
The audio in the on board is amazing as well. Listen to those car motors scream! Very impressive.
Watch how close they come to the shore line and the channel marker when they spin at 1:56 in the 2nd video.
Enjoy!

i have run 6 bridges and tell you guys over there that the bridge is a special place. 4 ski races and two boat races. the boat race is like a bare nuckle fight to death. This year (last weekend ) i run 0-300 outboard open mono class and came in second covering the 70 winding river course in 46.33,thats just over 90 mph average and im thrilled. Run about half of the course in the spray tail of the winning 300 hp boat but could not quiet take him out , fun trying though, ill try to post somr pictures of all the madness soon..

90 on that course is bad ass! I always try to get you guys ink on this site when ever it happens cuz most of us yank's have never seen anything like that let alone done it. The way we are about safety over here, it never will happen either.
When I was trying to figure out my 3.3 OMC Darren Spencer was helping me behind the scenes. Darren is famous for owning his class w/his OMC and in my book, holding your foot on the floor that long w/1 or 2 skiers behind you is way closer to what I want my motors to do than making it live for 700' at a time.
Thats why your race is on my bucket list.
BTW,2nd place @ 90 for 70 mls.....Congrats my friend. You are a stud!

When I go down there I may never come back. Boat racing is so stale here.

Besides their Bridge to Bridge what got my attention was their skiff racing. I remember Ken Warby telling me about them 10 yrs ago and I just smiled politely thinking he was senile ;) Think 50 yr old, lap strake, wood, Lyman styled, 20' w/a blown big inch, big block V-drive in them! And the seats are all the way against the transom. Think, our Jersey Speed Skiffs w/o the stupid hop, 3' longer and 5 times more power.
Ken used to tell me they would run w/our 7 liter Grand National Hydros! I knew he was senile then.
A few yrs ago our guys put together a team and went to Australia to throw down w/their skiff's. Our guys lost!
The pic's and videos are amazing. To see the big 3 point hydro's come into a turn (bad ass in it's own right!) beside what looks like a 50 yr old rum runner is just mind boggling to me.
unreal!!!! you can stand up in the middle of the river on a low tide up near the windsor end!that is real skinny water for one of them boats .awsome.
