I would have liked to see, "potato nose", Tony, get on the "cup", next to Dan, but a damn good finish! All three, side by side almost! How many have "done Indy"? What a PARTY! Been west coast decades now, but last Indy, was maybe 25 years ago. I posted this on my Facebook, yesterday. Yep, bet things have changed, but back then, WHAT A GAS! Read on.....
For those who, "Never did the "Indy 500", and aint there now? Its a BUCKET LIST PARTY, like one NEVER seen! Yeah, sure they toss a race I guess, but its ALL IN THE SATURDAY NIGHT, parking, out side the track, MASSIVE grass covered areas outside town proper. "Its a PARTY!" They got acres of pasture for camping, EVERYBODY has what needed, camp fires, beer, party until ya pass out. At 5am, the track infield opens, and its a LETS GO! And EVERY ROAD IN TOWN, is all lanes, a "one way in!" We always tried for the third corner fence. Then, ya pass out and get some sleep, NOT the party night! ZZZ
Then, the race starts, and its back to the party..(think of Woodstock, but no bands, a race instead..any excuse will do!) Ya get a glimpse of Indy rides, coming off the corner, and gone in a flash! 4 hours later, its over, back in the ride, and the massive "leaving"! ALL LANES..(even shoulders too!) ARE ONE WAY OUT NOW!. Massive traffic jams, and we went with 6 us, a dudes camper P/U, and 2 were sitting the tailgate out, at 5mph, then stop, move a 100 yards, stopped again. They jumped off a small store, more beer, and our lane, was a cop saying "MOVE ON NOW!" They never did make it back to our ride, had to hitch a ride back to Chitown, as back in Chi, the race was TV delayed, or re broadcast, so we got to watch it when back home. Slightly hung over, or still wasted, but the "home couch" with a grin that would NOT go away! LOTS OF FUN INDY!
Race start 9am here west coast, on the tube, and supposed to be one the HOTTEST, 95 DEGREES? Bet that "party tonight, will be one to put a "check it off, "Bucket List", and seya next year! (Its OK to do multiple "check offs, the bucket list too!"
And least I forget, its the "Memorial Day Race", decades of history, and those that "Gave the ultimate sacrifice"..for our freedom to live free, say its OK, to party, as I know any KIA/MIA/POW, fought, and died way to young, would say its cool, .."toss a Brat on the grill", but ..please, just do a "silent moment of .."Thanks"..as "Freedom".. comes with a price..from those passed. God Bless them....I walked out Nam, many did not, and think them daily.
