Klotz makes a good octane booster and a race gas concentrate you add to premium.

I have had good results with Synergen 120+ octane boost with injector cleaner.

You can buy it by the gallon or cases of pints.

Dave Bush said that Aces works in his dyno testing work on the 300XS. I would say that his sophisticated computers and years of experience with them should prove to anyone that Aces is a legitimate product.

How much of some of these octane boosters, added to a gal. of 87 to increase it to 91? I,ve heard it takes a fair amount thanks.

100LL avgas to mix with your 91. Avgas is guaranteed to be stable for 1 year. It a much higher quality gasoline than that for automobiles with much more stringent specifications. Plus, it's quite a bit cheaper than race gas...currently $4.85/gal here right now. Easy to get from most any airport.

That is what I blend with. Here they have 87 w/o ethanol and I mix it 50/50 with 100LL and get just a tad more than 93.

and get just a tad more than 93.

Is that a guess, or do you have a way of testing octane?

Is that a guess, or do you have a way of testing octane? There is no way of testing for octane. I suspect Paul is just using ratios to arrive at that number, which should be fairly accurate.

Based on recommendations from users of this forum, I just took delivery of a 54 gallon barrel of VP110. The delivery guy rolled out the back of his semi truck into my pickup box no problem. The guy I bought it from recommended mixing it halfnhalf with 91 non-oxygenated local pump gas. I only "need" 93 octane.

Before I bought this VP I bought a couple of quarts of Aces IV 2stroke. Does anybody run Aces IV in their VP or is it just overkill? If it is not beneficial to run the Aces (supposed added lubricant?) I will just run it in my Banshee.

John:

The only way to confirm octane is with a knock engine or a portable octane tester which are several thousand dollars. But one has to assume that the pumps are correct so mixing 87 and 100 oct 50/50 should yield 93.5.

Dang....I was hopin' that there was a cheaper way to test.....I did see an octane tester, (Russan, I beleive), but it was just over $1000....way outta my range....

I hope it is pretty accurate. That is how I'll be mixing it for my plane.
