Awlgrip

I want to Awlgrip my boat, and saw that I need an epoxy primer to spray first. The primer is the 545. At a price of around 200, I would prefer to use a different route. Why wouldn't any epoxy primer work. I see that stuff everywhere, even at the local hardware store in a spraycan. I just don't want to worry that the awlgrip will not stick. Thanks

If you did you would have one hell of a mess on your hands not to mention it would be an expensive lesson.

The epoxy that comes out of a can in the hardware store is simple paint...the stuff we use is a two part catalyzed mixture that will dissolve regular primer.

You need to use what the manufacturer recommends or you'll be stripping the whole boat...if you cannot afford this stuff try and using automotive paint...although it won’t be much cheaper.
