PS2 But there seems to be alot of shoot and kill, very violent games for it. Watch the ratings on the games young kids ask for. M-mature, T-teen, E-everone. Just my .02.

PS2, still plays all the old playstation games. If you into driving, PS2 has the best driving game, A must buy, grand turismo 2, awsome game.

More games out for the PS2 but many are ones you dont want kids to play....
I have both and Find myself and the 8 year old playing the Xbox more. It also makes a killer DVD player

Another vote for PS2. Also works as a DVD player and you can get a remote for it. I bought it for the sports games and driving games. The ATV Offroad Fury 1 and 2 our un-believable as is GT2 as mentioned in previous post. My little guy is 6 and he loves it.

I wish they would come out with the Hydro-Thunder game!

Okay, this is something I know about, so I’ll add my 2 cents….

The PS2 and X Box are both very good, but consider this:

1. The X-Box is far more advanced than the PS2… The X-Box uses an Nvidia GeForce3 graphics controller, which is easily four times faster than that of the PS2.
2. The X-Box uses an Intel Pentium III 733MHz CPU – again, way ahead of the PS2. The X-Box is basically a PC minus the keyboard. Not much of a CPU for a PC, but for a dedicated game console, it r-o-c-k-s.
3. Both can play DVD’s.
4. The Playstation has more games – much more, but both systems have good support from developers.
5. The X-Box “has better graphics.”
6. Net play on the X-Box is much more refined – and faster.
7. The PS2 is over 2 years old now and might soon be replaced.
8. PS2 has some really, really cool games, which the X-Box may or may not match in terms of playability, but the X-Box will always be more advanced as far as rendering and sound.
9. The PS2 is better for kids because of its software.
10. My opinion is that when the X-Box starts going public with broadband gaming, a lot of PS2 owners will feel sorry that don’t have it – but not everyone wants online gaming…. Wait, of course they do!

If you have a hot PC that you use for games (Pentium 4, 256+ MB RAM, 64+ MB Video, etc.) I would not bother with the X-Box – many of its games will be available in some form for the PC, and vice-versa.

Also – what about Nintendo Game Cube? It doesn’t play DVD’s, but this system is so much fun it’s silly. Nintendo has the best customer support, as well as some of the best games in the industry. Definitely the best choice for kids, although the Game Cube hardware is not as advanced as the X-Box, it is on par with the PS2.

Just my thoughts…

There are tons of game sites out there: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=ps2+xbox++games+reviews+cheats

They list all the games, you can search by type of game and there are separate sites for each console type.

im getting it shortley and Greg is so right, its much more advanced. A problem I heard with the PS2 also is that yes it plays DVD's but if you use it to play DVD's on a reguar basis the laser burns out and you cant play games or watch movies. The Xbox apparently doesnt have this problem

Inside the X-Box, with the DVD-ROM drive and hard drive already removed. Yikes!

I would think the Xbox has the right idea, because I think my PC is way better than any console. Also see the mouse as one of the best controls ever, particularly for a shooter. They cut games down to fit in consoles now. Not sure I could hook up my Momo force wheel to one either:) The consoles seem good for kids games more than what I like.

If I wanted one I would get the Xbox, and not for the love of MS either. Unless you have a 100 old PS1 games laying around. Also there is a little store here that sells/buys used games and systems. Can save $$ there. Tried a Gamecube, and it was nice and cheaper. I think I was told the warrranty is void on a PS2 if you use it for DVD! My brother inlaw had a PS1, Gamecube, and now a PS2 that I have played.

We're trying to ween our 12 year old son from relying on his PS2 for air. In 4th grade, each kid in the class had to give a presentation on what they thought the most important event of the century was.

Some kids said it was the birth of their little brother or sister (I thought that was cute).

Other kids thought it was the downfall of communist USSR (pretty advanced thought for these kids).

Many kids thought it was the Packers winning the Super bowl (go figure in Cheesehead land - gotta love getting thinking straight right away).

But without a doubt the most popular answer given by kids for the most significant event of the last decade was the invention of the Sony Playstation. :(

Don't get me wrong I like playing as much as the next guy but kids seem to be glued to these things for four hours a day. I can't understand why obesity and poor academic performance is prevelent today. Let 'em play but keep it limited and do other stuff too.

PS2 failure rate is 15% with in the 1st yr. If I remember from the research its about $115 minimum to have any issues resolved after the warantee has expired. Turn around time is 3-6 weeks at best. XBOX has a extended warantee for about $24/year...bumper to bumper. There will be a PS3 out in 04. These are all issues I found out by talking to several different toy stores for what that worth.

You got me beat! I have a Tandy 1000. It is an 8088 at 5mhz or something and just barely runs WP5.1...if it still runs. In a box someplace here. It is color, and the 20mb drive vibrates a little!
