Are the stock tuners and exhaust plates on a 1999 225 promax ok or can I see some gains by changing them. Also, thinking of putting a 40amp lightweight flywheel and reprogramming my ecu. Are these upgrades worth it? Looking for holeshot, midrange, top end, and reliability. What mods if any are most promax owners doing?

holeshot, midrange, and topend is a boaters dream. you can't have it all (that is unless you are running nitrous). you can have 2 out of 3 but one extreme will affect the other. the best and easiest mods are: reprogramming the ecu, a g-force tunner, reeds and exhaust relief. 7200 is about the max you want to go (peak hp). it also depends on the type of boat you are pushing. a lighter hull will respond better to these mods. if your hull alone is 1400 lbs plus, then i wouldn't bother. but if it's a light boat like an allison or bullet then these mods will be worth it. before doing these mods i would keep my ears open. some people want to downgrade their 260 to a promax on an even trade because the promax is more of a fishing motor. my friend wanted to trade with me but i passed it up. parts are about twice as much and rebuilds come faster.

The motor i have i bought new from mercury as a short blockk assy i have mounted carbs off a 150 xr6 on it, i put the 7 pedal reeds and high perf intake on it, it is all stock but it does have a set of milled heads for premium unleaded only the engine has maybe 40 hours run time on it, it pushed my allison bass boat 95 it runs real good thanks Greg.
