I found this rather interresting...I usually change mine every 5,000.
Tired Of Changing Your Oil Every 3,000 Miles?
Then trade in that beat-up 1970's jalopy for something newer! Consider these new models that boast 10,000 to 15,000 oil change intervals:
All 2012 Audi (http://autos.yahoo.com/audi/) models suggest you change oil at 10,000 miles
All 2012 BMW (http://autos.yahoo.com/bmw/) models suggest you change oil at 15,000 miles
2012 Ford Fiesta, Flex, (http://autos.yahoo.com/ford/flex/2012/se-fwd/) Focus, (http://autos.yahoo.com/ford/focus/2012/s/) and Mustang (http://autos.yahoo.com/ford/mustang/2012/v6-coupe/) models suggest you change oil at 10,000 miles
All 2012 Jaguar (http://autos.yahoo.com/jaguar/) models suggest you change oil at 10,000 miles
2012 Lincoln MKT (http://autos.yahoo.com/lincoln/mkt/2012/3-7l-fwd/) and MKX (http://autos.yahoo.com/lincoln/mkx/2012/fwd/) models suggest you change oil at 10,000 miles
All 2012 Mercedes-Benz (http://autos.yahoo.com/mercedes-benz/) models suggest you change oil at 12,000 miles
All 2012 Mini Cooper (http://autos.yahoo.com/mini/) models suggest you change oil at 12,000 miles
All 2012 Porsche (http://autos.yahoo.com/porsche/) models suggest you change oil at 10,000 miles, though some can go as far as 12,000 miles between oil changes
Nearly all 2012 Toyota models go 10,000 miles between oil changes
All Volkswagen (http://autos.yahoo.com/volkswagen/) models can go 10,000 miles between oil chang

If people want to ignore the fact(s) that newer engines run cleaner, fuels are cleaner, and the R&D that has gone into new oils to make them last longer.....and they still want to change their oil ever 3-months/3000 miles...let them. Just like you posted....most new cars/trucks today are desigend to go WAY longer than that. With fully synthetic oils, there is no reason why you can't go 10,000+ miles between oil changes. Some manufactures are even saying 15,000+ in between changes.
I usually change the oil in my truck every 5,000 miles (conventional oil), and my car every 10,000 miles (synthetic). The manual on my car says 15,500 between changes (and it's a 2003)..but changing at 10,000 makes me feel a little better :)

When it tells me, with synthetic, usually between 8500 and 10k. oil is still nice and brown when it comes out.
Junk filters are where the real problem lies now, imo.

I change mine twice a year,synthetic and oil/air filter,never consider the mileage!
Mobil 1, every 10K. No problem.

The biggest problem now days is people think that they can still go those intervals, while going to Wally World or Jiffy Lube and getting the $19.95 special. Those mileage intervals are obtained when using factory spec'd oils and filters. I run Mobil 1 (have seen bad things on Amsoil) through my Silverado and change it when the oil life monitor system says to.

All VW's from 2005 and up the factory calls for synthetic oil. And Starting in 2009 all went to 10,000miles except the VW Routan(Chrysler Caravan copy) is 6000 with regular oil. The big advantage with synthetic oil is that no sludge is formed inside the engine. VW diesel required VW special synthetic way back in the 90's forward.

If I was leasing a new vehicle then I might would go by those specs but you buy something to own it like I do then 10k seems a little out of the ball park. I used to run synthetic in my other truck and I will say that the motor did run alot smoother when I switched to it at 160k miles. The oil still turned black in almost the same amount of time so I stayed on the same intervals. When the oil turns black then I change it plain and simple. Dirty oil can't be good for any motor no matter what the car manufacturer or oil manufacturer says.

Oil changes are the reason I drive a $400 Honda Accord, I don't have to change it, it changes itself. I go 6000 miles and the oil light flashes I add 3 qts of usually drain oil from the bike and continue on my way. Ive had the car for 40,000 miles or so and have only changed the filter a few times

I have never had an engine failure of any kind with the last 8 vehicles I've owned all trucks and all have gone well over 250k with an average of 50k a year before being sold and none had oil changes sooner than 10k and I've never run synthetic in any but, they run every day I think lack of use kills more vehicles than steady use.

03 Buick Lesabre - when the indicator tells me, dino oil & GM filter

Its done strictly for the COST PER MILE - or Gallon to operate on the maroney sticker on the window. That and 3-4 other little things lower that number dramatically. That said, would I follow their suggestions- HELL NO .
BUT -
If you did, and documented it(preferable at a dealer or selling dealer) and you have a failure- there is NOTHING they can say to despute your warranty claim.

Last time I checked for my truck a 7.3 power stroke from Ford was around 10k for a reman installed. Sounds alot cheaper to change the oil sooner than later for my situation. If it's an older gas motor thats cheap to replace then run the crap out of and don't worry bout it. I only personally know one person that has 800k miles on a power stroke and he religiously changes oil at 3k miles.

253760I'll probably die before I need to buy another new car. The monitor comes on at approximately 5,000 intervals. Supposed to rotate at 5,000 and change the oil at 10,000. I'm a mechanic, I changed the oil and rotated the tires every 5,000 miles. The manufacturer doesn't care if the engine burns up after the warranty period is over, but I do. Oils cheep and so am I!

On our 2011 Terrain, the recommended interval is like 6000. The oil life indicator on the readout usually says over 50% life left when it needs a change. I have been using Dextoast and it looks like hell at 6000. I usually change it closer to 5000 miles.
I am going to switch to full synthetic. It has 38,000 on it already and we are shooting for 250k before replacing it.

Oil & filter every 3000-3500 miles , 2004- Ford V -10 - 255,000 miles Dino oil , burns no oil between changes . Done this to every vehicle in our fleet never an issue . When the oil comes out it's ready for changing . I simply cannot imagine waiting till some of these recommended intervals to change it , I don't care what they say !

In my opinion, if you change your oil more frequently and at lesser mileage intervals, that's a good thing and your motor should last longer. I used to change mine every 3,000 until I became a contractor and started puting 50,000 per year on my truck. It's simply easier to pay attention to 25,000, 30,000, 35,000, etc for oil changes...That being said, I do use Mobil Clean 5,000 motor oil that is formulated for 5,000 miles between oil changes. I've been doing this with my vehicles for over ten years and none of my vehicles has ever burned any (blue smoke from tailpipe) or leaked any inbetween changes....I just found the information interresting.

10,000 miles is no problem with a modern engine and synthetic oil. Buy Mobil1 at Walmart and change it yourself.
The lubricant industry cannot believe its luck that many Americans believe they need to change engine oil every 3000 miles.

Acams-- LOL! :)
Lawn mower- every two years or so, mobile synthetic.
02 Z28 37K :) when ever it tells me. 5/30 Castrol
93 GMC 225K every 5K Castrol 20-50
01 Cummins Dodge 210K every 10K Rotella 10/30
Various John Deere equipment and power units- low sulfur fuel, 200hrs- Rotella T30. One tractor has almost 9,000 hrs on it with very little blow by.
Clean air, oil, and fuel seem to go a long way. EFI doesn't hurt! ;)
