Only two houses in my area....mine, and my Uncle's house.

His house is just behind mine, through a path in the bamboo.

Our driveways are less than a 1/4 mile apart, but he is way off the road down a long driveway...

The house is visable from the road...but its far off, and no street lights.

The house is under construction, but is at a hault at this time, and my Uncle live in the Mountains of NC....I am on the coast..

This is the third time they have been up there....they back up to his front door....I can't find anything broken into in the house, although there is a table saw in plane view thru the front window....a small boat in the garage, gocarts, tile saw, vinyal siding in boxes....etc...ALL kinds of junk laying around....

I went to Lowes last night and bought the biggest chain they had, and one of those bad azz locks....

This morning on the way to work.....the gate was open again.....

They DID cut the lock on a simi trailer that is in the field beside the house.....(last time they came in)...but I didn't open it to look in there, cause the Law may come have a look and I didn't want my finger prints etc on anything...

I guess they come up late at night....?

I hope they aren't brave enough to try and get into my house during the day when I am at work....I live near the road, a bridge, and the creek is in my front yard.....I hope that keeps them afraid to go to my house....

Any ideas on how to catch them in the middle of the night?...I have to work...so I can't sit up all night.....and if I meet up with them....I don't want to shoot, them, but I ain't gonna get beat up either.....

you could always get a couple trail cams...build up enough pics of them breaking in along with the times they are doing it and have the cops there waiting one night Trail Camera (http://www.google.com/aclk?sa=l&ai=COVIWDx9zT4q8K4u-tgeHwYjHD4qW6oUC2tjUkRyrx7gSCAAQAyCkqawDKANQj7ia0vj_____AWDJzvCM5KT4F6AB4pf-9QPIAQGqBBNP0CDC5e7VMXP2jfU4a3Y-bW5dugUTCPqE0-Xlia8CFaVxNAodpnL-HMoFAA&rct=j&q=trail%20camera&ctbm=shop&ei=Dx9zT7rBKKXj0QGm5fnnAQ&sig=AOD64_2eVqThoyGKoBif2ahCS4UHzrWU9Q&sqi=2&ved=0CCgQ0Qw&adurl=http://www.rkdms.com/redirect%3Fc%3D70199721%26en%3D1%26cl%3D261%26u%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.gandermountain.com%252Fmodp erl%252Fwelcome_search.cgi%253F%252B%252Fmodperl%252Fproduct%252Fcatalog.cgi%253Fcname%253DCameras%2 526r%253Dbrowse%2526aID%253D503B1%2526s_kwcid%253Dadwords_trail_camera&cad=rja)
the other thing that might keep them away is motion flood lihgts...just a thought

A good dog goes a long ways.
You could also do driveway alarms. Not the cheap ones. You can find good ones online that go long distances.
Use the big chain to lock the gate after the drive in :) they will be back for the table saw later.

You have to get the infrared ones that don't flash or they'll steal them when they see the flash. ;)

I have the Speco Intensifier cameras all the way around my house, tied to a Samsung [Homeland Security Admin surplus] DVR that also can store on the NET if the alarm goes off. The Specos can film in color at night without any LED illuminators and all the kids in the neighborhood know they are there. They don't work as well if there are street lights or yard lights due to the glare.

John, I agree on the trail cams, work great, can even be hooked up to notify YOU when they go off ! Then you can go and ask them just what the **** they are doing !!!

even the infared flash will be visible at night, they make trail cams that use black leds for true stealth,

I thought about the trail cams...good idea....I'll try to get my Uncle to buy one when he comes to the coast on Thursday..

$25 for 2 feet of chain and a lock.....they used a hydrolic cutter to cut the chain at Lowes....must be a BIG bolt cutter if the thieves cut it by hand....

Motion lights are a good idea also...not sure if he has electricity on at the house now or not...

A little voltage on the chain would be fun. electric fence equipment would be harmless and get there attention.

Get 3/8" G7 or G70 chain. You have to cut it with a torch or friction saw. Cutters won't cut it.

Speaking of theives............. While at lunch I realized some POS stole my 16k forged reciver hitch with 2 5/16 ball.......

I know someone will say how I should have prevented the theft by keeping the thief 'honest' by using a lock pin.... I know to those, how I contributed to the theft, I know, I know......:)

I always keep the thing locked,,,,,,,,,,,,,until yesterday evening. My neighbor near my river property asked if I could help him by moving his newly aquired 50ft mobile home trailer/river camp onto his lot, as his friend could not make it. Sure, not a problem,,, I unlock my pin after much agravation due to rust/mud/etc. in the key hole, take off my light 5k hitch and install my 16k hitch. I used a non lock pin since I was going to clean out the locking pin that was full of muck.
Hook up to his trailer, pull it a few blocks from where it was pre-staged, get it on his lot only to have it sink up to the axles in soft sub surface grround, fight shovels, boards, jacks and timbers for 4 hours to get unstuck... life is good and the beer was cold, all's well once more.Left the hitch in as I sorta forgot about it as it was late.
Hit my shin on the fukkin thing this morning before daylight, cuss it, git in truck and go to work, So I know for a fact it was there this morning, gots the red marks on shin to prove that it was...

Decide to run to the store today for a plate lunch,,, driving down the road, come up on a parish tractor with winged bushhog in the middle of the road,,,DOA, with people flying aorund him, Pull up and ask him if he wanted me to pull him outta the curve so no one would run him over, as I had straps in the back of truck, he says THANK YOU !!!! PLEASE..!

I back up to him, climb in back of truck, retrieve straps and shackles, hook up to the front of the tractor, hand him the end of the strap, telling him that when I back up, for him to put the eye of the strap on the ball of my reciever, as I pointed to the reciever, it was friggin' GONE.!!! What a pisser!

The first time the smaller chain was cut, they used a pair of bolt cutters....you could see where it took them several tries, leaving "teeth marks" on the chain link.....I wont know what they did last night, until I get home tonight and have a look...then I will walk over to my Uncle's house AGAIN and see if I can tell what is missing....

Thats the weird part....they have been up there at least 3 times...and there are still screw guns, ladders, table saws, go carts etc laying all around.....

I don't know what was all there before they came around...but the only thing that I can SEE that is missing, is where an extension cord was laying in the dirt....you can see where they pulled it up...and you can see where the cord layed on the concrete, (and left a "dirt shadow")

All the AC/heater copper is still on the units, and the wires going to them are still there....

I'm sure they are getting some things...but if it was me.....I would go one or two times, and get all the "Pawn Shop" sellable parts that I could carry.....

They even left my uncle a little pile of weeds that they must have had in the back of their truck...

I have a 105lb American Bulldog that is the sweetest dog to me and my family but if we arent home i dont care if you have a 2" Ribeye in your hand he is gonna eat your ass up if your brave enough to get close to him or my house.

Call RL Melton at Dunn Brokus Kennels (they are on the internet). He ships dogs all over the country. It is actually the bloodline from the dog Chance on the movie Homeward Bound. He has some beautiul dogs and some big dogs. The dad to Bruiser(my 105lb bulldog) was 128lbs. It will be alot cheaper than any alarm/camera system and all you have to do is feed him and love him and he will take care of you and your family and all the other things you have of value. They might come back to steal from you one more time but that will be the last time.
