Does this stuff really work.. If so, then how much benefit have you noticed and what are the product brands that have reasonable quality... Thanks..

The reflectives work somewhat. What does NOT work is the spray foam insulation applied on the attic side of your shingles on asphalt shingle roofs. The foam does not allow the shingle to shed heat from the sun into the attic below and it bakes the shingles to death. The foam is also involved in many lawsuits due to the lingering smelly amine that oozes from it in certain cases.

Really? Haven't heard that before. I had my concerns when we looked at it back when we built our house, but my concern was more with trapping of moisture if there was ever to be a void in the shingles and you'd never know until it was too late.
We opted for traditional blown insulation with a radiant barrier on the underside of the top chord on the trusses. We did this in the entire attic area and I believe it makes a huge difference in attic temps when properly vented. It creates an airspace that constantly flows the hot air up and out of the ridge vents.
The radiant barrier I don't think works is the type that is glued to the back of the sheathing. ;)
