As many know I am in the process of recoring my Vector. The old core is out.The glass is all sanded and I am ready to lay in my new core bedded on top of some 9 oz mat?Question for those who have recored with Klegcell 75, what thickness did you use?I have enough 3/8 to do it but I was wondering if 1/2 is a better choice or if it even matters.I am planning on putting some heavy bi-weave mat on top of the new core. Thanks,Scotty

I used 1/2" Klegcell in my Viking pad. This is what our local boat builder told me to use. He's my mentor and I diden't question him.(the factory balsa was 1/2") He builds 28' - 36' offshore boats with ALL foam core NO wood anywhere!

How much of a pounding will the boat take?? A thinner core will have more flex. I would contact "Plumb Crazy", he does alot of 'Stream recores and may have more info. Good luck

Its gonna take alot of pounding.I boat on the Great South Bay on Long Island famous for a 2 foot chop when it blows.I guess I better get some 1/2 Kleg.

I used Kleg 75 1/2 down the center and 3/8 on either side.
Sandwiched between 1508 with eposy resin.

H20nut, Just so I understand, you mean 1/2" on the pad and 3/8" everywhere else?Does you boat ever get pounded or is it flat water use only?Scotty

TAMPA BAY, yes it gets smacked. 1/2 everywhere is a better choice.

I feel like such an idiot. Before I even cut out the old core I bought about $160 worth of 3/8" Kleg 75 because I cut out a small piece of old rotten smelly balsa core and I thought it measured 3/8".Oh Well, live and learn. At least I didn't figure it out after I glassed it all in.

The 3/8 will be fine, hell double up down the pad, I dont see any real issue with the 3/8. You will be fine. Just imagine how much strength wet balsa has , zippo, none, nadda

Smelly wet balsa...like this
