Loaded saws, generators, fuel, tools, tarps, water, ice, etc most of last night, headed to Hamilton Co, Tn. shortly, my uncle, two cousins and my cousins mother and father in law got blown away, thankfully only two people were seriously injured in their neighborhood. Took my cousin 2 hours on a 370 track hoe to get medical personal in there. If your not doing anything and you live close to the east side of Chattanooga, Tn. come on down, they could use the help.

+1....
Good luck to them all Bill and good for you being there to help. We had an F4 rip thru our little neighborhood a few years back and until you experience walking up to your neigbors house and it is litterally just a pile of debris it is hard to fathom. You have no idea how much of a relief it is to hear someone from the basement holler they are all ok, just scared. Then it is time to dig em out and board up the ones left standing. Best of luck to ya.

Saw way more than needed, tube, back there. I'm a old midwest boy myself, and my old school HD bike riding pardner, is a Alabama good old boy..(my best friend too, both us "transplants, west coast), now.
I got a cousin in Nashville, dealt many "nado's, "need a new roof"..again!. AND, I remember back in Illinois, when I lived in Downers Grove. What, early 80's? The Plainfield tornado.
I left work at 3pm, pick up my mom at Ohare, been west coast, sisters duplex here, after my dad died. A came back home, see old friends. So, as I'm driving to the airport, the sky to the west, was a brownish/green. It was 90 + degrees, humid to knock ya too yer knees, and knew, "a mean one".
So I pick up mom, back to the old hood, and drop her off, old friend. Its 5pm now, and the news was on. "MASSIVE F5, HAS HIT PLAINFIELD"
So, as my house was some miles away, said .."I better go home and look, my digs"
All cool by me, but then I jumped on the Harley, to go look, as have a friend there. I got there about 6pm, and let me tell ya RIGHT NOW! What I saw was at one time, a rural trees shaded, old school type town? Damn near gone. trees stripped, but what left, held onto the torn apart house's, "pink insulation..(damn even at one time filled, probably 24 foot across, 4 deep, above ground pool?...stuck in a tree!) The silence, was, unbelievable. People just wandering around, simple dazed, as too damn much too take in at one time. And I have only too imagine, those there, saying..."Oh CHIT!"
I've dealt on CC rides, Kansas , MEAN SKY, but when on a bike, ya got a way out. Just nail it away from it.
But seeing what happened, in 30 seconds, Plainfield? Best I can say, be strong back there. Wish I could help, just to damn far away now.

My nephew, in SoCal, does disaster INS, "farmed out adjuster, overload the reg adjusters"). Been recent, floods in Dakota, before, Christchurch, NZ, a month there, earthquake, etc. THATS what needed now, not pushing "roof repair", before any money coming in, to fix?) How about say, "I'm coming down, with water, food and clothing, chain saws, gas, help clean up, then, "fix the roof"..(if any left the house, that is. ..wait, go to that town in Indiana, first, where the whole town was wiped out? Not getting on yer case here...know ya meant well, but in poor taste, too me..again, some there, went through living hell, something I hope I never see..again..the "aftermath"..as its "unexplainable"

So you made it back in time for the parades in Selma, huh? :p :p :p :p :D
Good luck to your people up there. The house I live in is a replacement of one that was devastated by a tornado. I really need to buy a shelter. When bad weather approaches I usually stay under my car port. If I hear it coming, I'm running for the ditch!

Well, we all know natural disasters are going to happen, and its big news for awhile, nation wide, but thing is, after most forget, those affected are affected for life. For those who survived, rebuilding goes on for years, decades for all the natural tress, etc, to come back. What was, never to return. Feel for those affected, but help is there, clean up, just beginning.
Still think twisters are the worst, but at the same time, one of natures ways, that sure is impressive. Always been a weather nut myself. Things can happen slowly too. Happened here, 2002 I think.
Seems we had 2 months of above average rain,. The "Pineapple Express", like a fire hose aimed at us, off the ocean. Stalled fronts, kept in there. The east end us here, 600 crib HOA, end of peninsula, on a hill, well, lost 38 houses in a SLOW landslide. Took 6 months to stop. Daily cracks showing up, houses creaking, and nothing to do but watch. Slowly we went in, started tearing down what was safe to do, took a year, of a mess, cost us plenty, as privete, not a lot of stete help. Still a mess up there in places, deemed safe to life. And we won't have to worry in anymore, as the state, with its wisdom, put a 2000 year moratorium on building ANYTHING in that area.
Guess, best ya can do is take life day at a time, whats here, might not be here tomorrow. We here, are due for another earthquake too. Been 10 years since the last 6.8, high number, but a very deep quake. I was in the kitchen, sounded like a glass broke in the sink, then 35 seconds on hanging on to the fridge and the sink, watching 100 foot tall ceder tress wiggling like the Green Giant was shaking them! Pretty impressive! No damage me, just a lot of stuff off shelves, power out 3 days. Saw a rerun the Japan quake the other day. Damn, was larger quake, and its shook for FIVE MINUTES! And then the water came....(saying us here should be seeing real soon, debries, washing up on the coast too)
Like Red Green says..."Hang in there, were pulling for ya"............."Keep yer stick on the ice"

I deleted my second post at ya, as for me, to tell another, what to do was out of line. None us, any damn better than the other. Just having a bad day yesterday. Thing is, I'm a born and raised for 44 years, Illinois native, until I moved west coast..(why, I still don't know, as miss ya crazies back there too) But some the best people known, are the hearty "Midwest breed". All take care each other, when the chit hits the fan. Seems I was thinking some the scum bag, rip off artists, that show up with .."help", take yer dough, (seen it others, old people)..and never seen again to do repairs. Hope ya know where I was coming from, when the mouth opened up before the brain. Aint the first time, won't be the last, but when I'm wrong, I have to apologize also. As to me.."A clear conscience, the brain, is the best pillow known". NOW, go get a pizza, the BEST in the world there, and be well... (where ya at, Illinois?", me western Chi Burbs)
Also, seems seen the news today, Indiana?...cold and snow, on top of the little left in damage. My heart goes out to ya back there. Those involved in destruction, doing the clean up, which will take a long time. I saw it in the Plainfield tornado. Do what ya can to find body's, residents go back in, salvage what they can, and then the bulldozers come in, what left, but into massive "burn piles"....and that's a real sad sight...as what ya owed at one time, now, "up in smoke" Be strong back there..with ya in spirit, wish I could help.

As no way, am I saying, what there, is trivial. And like said, ground pix, never will show what a tornado, can do. I had to go back and search, the Plainfield Tornado. I was not in it, but saw it 20 miles away. This bitch was a monster. Little bit text, and a link the pix.
"On August 28, 1990 an F5 tornado (261-318 mph winds) tore through Plainfield ..."
These pix tell the story..and its the same back there, you kids..lately..again, wish the best, there.

Bill. I haven't been on here this week and just saw your post today. I live about 6 or 7 miles from Island Cove and didin't even get a hard wind. Lots of rain but it is amazing that something that powerfull came that close to us again. My Grandmother which was 98 yeras old had died and we were on our way to her visitation in Jackson County Al. the day it hit. Around here Jackson Co. is the Tornado capitol of the south. I had heard on the radio that something happend in Harrison but had no idea how bad it was until we drove thru there. The funeral home on Sand Mountain herded us all in a interior room and told us to stay there. A lot of us didn't and watched a Tornado come over the mountain heading northeast towards Chattanooga. The radio was saying there was another one behind it coming out of Huntsville. I got mom and my wife in the Suburban and we headed off the mountain me thinking I would follow the first one at a safe distance and beat the second one home. My plan would of worked perfect if the first one had not crossed I24 at Tiftonia closing the interstae. It shut down the interstate making everyone have to get off at hwy 41 at Lookout Mtn. We were within a mile of the exit but with all the dumb asses trying to drive up the shoulder we were there for a long time. Then that second one came through and we were sitting there beside trucks that I just just knew were going to turn over on us. That one stayed off the ground and we finnally got home. Your folks that are up here are not very far from me at all and if there is anything I can do let me know. .

During Hurricane Dora, I watched from my second floor bedroom as a F2 sized funnel come straight down Ortega River and tore the roof off of our neighbor's dockhouse.
It never did come ashore, but did rip many boats from their mooring along with the docks they were tied too. There was no power for two weeks but we had a generator.
