Correct spelling is Knytex. It is several types of glass fabric made from layers of unidirectional glass that are stitched together instead of woven like traditional boat cloth.

AME 4000 is a marine resin made by Ashland Chemical. Never used it and I don't think it is sold for consumer use. Perhaps you can get tech info from whoever you are buying it from.

You are not being a dumb ass but then again my initials are BS:eek:

We use knytex to build all of our boats. It's very strong due to the weave pattern. All of the resin we use is from Ashland Chemical, we use a vinyl ester resin. I will check tomm. to see what AME 4000 is.

wondering is it epoxy, polyester, vinylester or what. whatever it is it must be pretty good. did a search and came up with the who's who of boat manufacturers that use it.

AME 4000 is a vinylester resin. It's what we use to build our boats. I should have known that (DOH!) I'm from Pierre Part LA (near morgan City) I plan on moving back after finishing school. AME 4000 is some really strong $hit. I've used it on many repairs with 0 comebacks. FYI, We build TITAN powerboats A 22' modified tunnel. Good luck on your repairs.

Ashland has a place in Bartow where they make polyester resin. They have a very small plant on the other side of the road where they make premium stuff like AME4000.

The AME4000 and 5000 are supposed to be the very best.

I believe AME 4000 is what Allisons are made of and a few others. One of the best resins, main difference between 4000 and 5000 is that the 4000 has a greater % of shrink, which means the part may come out of the mold easier. Kick it 2%
DDM-9 catalyst with temperature in the 70's. A lot of variables in glass work, keep the mix accurate to the cc's and the temp up out of the 60's and mix it very well. Have a fire extingusher handy.
