I saw this picture in Jeff's Miami boat show thread
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll434/FreezeFrameVideo/2012boatshow/16.jpg
Does anybody know any particulars about it?
Is it their old PT21 or something new?

dam that is some price tag, for that price i'd go with a new progression or a tuff. nice boat but must weigh a ton with that full liner

I believe it is the same hull as the old 21 they changed the deck a little and made entry for under deck.

Holy Cow who designed that dash and those cheeseball speaker pods??? An a wrap around rear seat in a 21ft boat??? yeah thats practical....They should stick to what they do best and thats been big boats.....The dash with all of those angles nothing looks straight....WHo put the control box where it is??? looks like it was rigged by jojo the tire man....

G, YOU ARE cruel........:eek::D:D
BTW, :iagree: I was thinking along the same lines, what were they thinking.....:eek::smiletest:
I saw the boat in person in Miami, cool looking little rocket. The back seat only wraps around on the port side with the passenger seat mounted forward a little more than the driver's.

OH GOD.....Just found a thread on OSO with a bunch of pictures from Miami.....All i can say is that my OPINION of Hustler has gone way down.....There are all of these Manufacturers there pushing the envelope of style and design coming up with newer and better stuff and then there is Hustler.....Everything i saw looks like a failed experiment to be cool or different....If the look they were going for was Bayliner chic then they nailed it....to me most of there stuff looks like 1995 called and they want ther faria guages back....

I read on OSO its $70,000 with a 200 opti. I wonder why they would decide to come out with something like this, I think Hustler I think big boats/big engines. I give them an A for effort, but I would rather find an old challenger/shadow/superboat and fix it up or go new progression/tuff.

I like this boat from a distance and the general concept however.. when I saw the interior my first thought was wall mart central low budget junk! The 22 Activator looked great inside this looks like total crap from those super cheap seats, throttle, and terrible instrument panel layout!
Not trying to jump the thread here but........ we build a really nice looking 21 O/B....and can save you alot of money.......

Here we go again... Hustler failed the first time out in the early 1980's with their 21' because it was "excessively heavy" and no match performance wise to other 21's. Now they come out again with this one still needing a diet at 2800 lbs.! What are they thinking??
Those rear speakers will get wet for sure! Oh, That is if someone doesn't trip over one first.
Maybe this is just a "poser" show model never intended to hit the water??

My old activator had the back hatch, and it was the easiest way to get on/off the boat, I had a small cushion for it that people could lay out on if they wanted, and I was always hanging off the back trying to get seaweed, a plastic bag, etc off the lower unit.....those speakers are only going to get in the way, and not in a good way

My guess is they can care less for the low end entry boater and mostly targeted the high end, big$$ guys that wanted a toy or something along with their big Hustler to play around the lake with...
IMPO, they did a horrible job with it regardless!!!
BTW, CMC Rich Jr makes an awesome boat!

Thats a giant looking 21, compared to the Hustler its like chalk and cheese.......very nice looking boat.
That hustler looks nice in the first picture but when you see the interior its aweful, looks like a cheap plastic toy.....and talk about basic with bad fitting upholstory and those stupid speakers that will get wet. It talks more about the stereo and plug ins than the boat on the discription and also seems very heavy for such a basic boat and the dash makes you feel like reaching in and twisting those guages straight. With a fantastic used market and far better deals that is going to be impossible to sell surely.............Oh dear

I don't like the L-shaped or wrap-around rear benches in any boats as they actually limit the seating capacty and block the sides when you're trying to dock and tie up.

Hactivator, ok that is funny,
I do like that someone is trying something new, but I have to agree with most of the comments, the speakers are just silly, I don't like the controls, for that price how about some zero effort or similar,
and the seats don't look like they would work all that well in anything beyond mild chop. I do think the deck is attractive, at least in the pictures, and I am curious how well it runs with the 200

That 21' hustler is the same mold from the 1980's (I don't know about the deck). Mark Schnepf designed it in I believe 1984. He also designed the 388 deck, the 26, the 34, the 40 for Hustler, almost all the activator (now rage) hulls, and was the brain behind the step bottom boat back in the late 80's when hustler was competing with fountain. He also had a hand in some of the original plugs and molds for Apache.

Looks like the same guy who designed the speaker enclosures, dash and general ergonomics also designed the high tech display stand. Note the two (treated) 4x4's holding the bow up. The chair is pretty hot too. I'll keep my Progression thank you.

its gotta be a pig with that 200.....every single engine 21-22 out there is running a 250 or better and they run real nice that way....
hell if someone wants to spend 65k i will sell them my kryptonite with its promax 300 and a proven 85mph top speed, along with a complete extra promax 300, a sweet aluminum trailer, real steering and real guages and hell i will even throw in 2 years worth of water pumps and thermostats and spark plugs and two props and gear lube and oil and maybe even a few other things....LOL....Or if my krypto isnt your speed head on down to the classifieds and buy Chris donnelys 22 Progression with a 300xs that runs a solid 90+ and is factory fresh and at least you will have a real boat with some real resale and a cult like following.....

Ya I have to agree $65k is a big pill to swallow, but then I haven't seen any "NEW" boat prices lately that I think are even close to reality.
So maybe in the "NEW" boat world that is reasonable???
65K will buy you a new Wildman Randys fully tricked out Liberator with a 250xs. I know that Hustler is more of a offshore boat but imagine how much you would be spending for a 21fter to get it your way, probably 75-80k+ if you want a bigger engine. Hmmmmm.

I priced out a new 22' Progression with a 250XS on it a couple of years ago. On the trailer, it wasn't far off from what they're asking for that Hustler. Of course it weighs a ton less. And will go faster. And have better re-sale value. And looks better. And ...
the back seat is kind of interesting, rest of the boat misses the mark a bit. Speakers are terrible

Why so heavy?? Its great to see pics of the interior (which is god awful), but what does hustler have to say about the most important part..the bottom/structural design/building process..if the design of the pad and the bottom is as bad as the design of the interior then I think I can find a 25' walk around that will be faster then this thing

Dunno - Seem to remember Coen offering a 30' Y2K with power for the same price.. http://www.superboatonline.com/30-Y2K-Superboat-496-MerCruiser.html Granted it was last year but IMHO, that's way more new boat for the $

The Sutphen would be a great package with a 300XS on the back. I wonder what it weighs in at un-rigged?
JamesGang

My bet is the Sutphen would run 90+ with a 300XS dialed in right.

02-28-2012, 09:53 AM
I just read some info on the Sutphen 21'. It has a 7' beam, is 20' 9" long w/ 20 degree dead rise and weighs 2500lbs. with a 350 mag/ 300hp. that is good for 70 mph. A 496HO gets you to low 80's (83 mph) and low 70's with a 225 outboard.
Interior space looks a little on the tight side but similar to a 21' superboat.

Those are all conservative #s, trust me I have driven both of those boats. And the O/B has great space, both cockpit and storage.

The rear hatch is pretty big on the Sutphen. You could probably cut that hatch in half and move the seat back another 6"+ easily. The flip side is you may get some secure storage under that larger hatch space like we got when we converted our Ultra 23XS to OB power.

I'll call my friend Morgan and have either he or Chris who posted earlier answer that question. I would like to know myself what it would be with a 300XS, nice paint job, gauges, pod with nice controls, and side mount hydraulic steering. Lets see if they can put a price on something like that.
