How fast is your little boat?
What motor, what engine height, set back (if any), what prop?
My boat is faster than I am. I've seen 47.8 gps but there is more there. With more seat time I'll be faster next year:)
My thinking is that a well rigged one like Mark Casper's will do 70, but that most of us aren't set up to get near there.

.
hey,
i have a delta, and am in the process of getting a 75 johnson short shaft. i will be rigging it on a bobs jackplate with 5.5 inch setback. the prop i will be running will be a 23 cleaver. The boat is blueprinted and i will have pully stearing. I am hoping to get a bit more than 70mph.

my ole voodoo got 72mph on radar.
worked 60 mariner
jackplate
little chopper prop
multiple pairs of soiled boxers.
I sold it to a guy who wanted to put a 90 merc on the back...hmmm, not to sure about that one!
I never met the guy - but apparently when my dad went out for a spin with him to test drive the boat he couldn't come close to pinning it down...as it was that boat was a handful as I know speedyfast can attest to.
And to comment with the above post on setup = key. Agreed. I brought the boat into a mechanic for some servicing and he decided to lower the motor on the jackplate about 5" because the boat was cavitating out of the hole(no ****!) and the speed loss was remarkable, approx 10 mph. In its topspeed setup I had to lean forward to get her to plane, but after that it was all smiles
Anyway - gotta love those boats!

hey, ill be taking the motor off this and putting it on my delta

thats the one from the boat trader isnt it? that voo doo? its sweet. did you buy that engine or the whole thang. wasnt it for sale in the summer? peace. itll match up with the colors of your delta perfectly
yes,
this is the boat that was for sale in the autotrader this summer. i was looking to buy the motor from the guy but when i called it was sold.
i was looking for a motor for sometime and than someone called me about a motor for sale. sure enough it is the motor off the voodoo that was in the trader.
i will only buy the motor, and do think it will match my boat nicley.

I am rigging my voodoo hopefully this summer with a 40 don't know wether a ss or not. If anyone knows where i could get one please tell me. I want a small engine because i can't legally drive over a forty until the summer of 2004. Please contact me if you have an engine or know someone who does!
[email protected] or just reply to my post "wanted 40 hp"

My advice for the fellow looking for a 40 is to go with a long shaft. The Voo Doo's I've seen with short shaft motors have the transoms cut down down.
70 OMC short shaft - I think it has the 15:28 gears. I can't see how you could rev a long shaft 70 OMC (12:29 gears) high enough to get to 60 mph.
As for me, I expect the boat will be faster if I raise my engine. Its flat on the transom now. The boat will be harder to plane and it barely planes now with 2 adults and 2 kids, but I have a Virage for taking the family out. My question is, will the boat be easier to learn to drive if I raise the engine?
Cheers

How much does a voo doo or a delta weight .Tyler you said your voo doo ran 47 with a 40hp engine, was it short shaft, what kind of prop.
a delta probably weighs about 200lbs, just the shell (no transom)
im guessing with a transom and stringers no more than 300lbs.
Pete
Im not to shure about the voodoo, i think a little more but not to much.

Does a delta have a pad,or a step in the hull. Those deltas must be strong hulls ,there heavy but they would probably run great in 1ft 2 ft chop.It would be pretty fun to jump em around.
yes,
deltas seem to be sturdy hulls. THe boats have a pad, i will try to dig up some pictures. the boats run best in 6-8 inches of chop because than you get the air under your boat and your really flying.

airide...47 with a long shaft lowered about a inch lower than it would be on the transom with 6 inch jack plate ... the boat has a 6 inch setback already in it soo im saying somewhere around 12 inches of setback i think...also i ran a 17 p aluminum stock i tried choppers and they didnt helpo much couldnt find a cleaver to try but i thought i might was well just upgrade the motor...also my boat weighs 260 pounds i think or something around there no enigne just hull..havent had it weighd but thats what IHR says...

Are voo doos supposed to run better with longs or shorts? They have a 24'' transom so with about 5'' setback and bairly any lift witha shortshaft it aut to run pretty good. But the gearcases you guys are runing dont have LWP so its going to be hard to get them as high as you want them. You can always block the top two water pickup holes with silicone so it pics up more water than air but only if it is in need of it.

No i dont use a setback or jackplate when i run the biger engine on my hull. The engine is about 1'' above the bottom of the hull when i get my 45ss it will run about 2 1/2" above the bottom.Ive got a step in the back of the hull.
