will a 25inch motor work on a 21ft superboat

sup guys. I bought a hull a few months ago but I'm having a tough time finding an engine. will only a 20 in engine work properly or will a 25 inch engine maybe set up on a jack plate work?

I ran a 25 inch on the back of a small 19 foot Baja that took a 20 inch leg before using a jack plate. Was not the best thing to due, but when your budget is tight....it can work. It may cause it to chine walk a good bit or not because you are moving the center of gravity up more, but it is doable. Need to remeber one thing...when putting on there using a plate, the plate will most likley on have 5 to 6 inches of lift and will not allow you to go any higher.

Dont do that, find a 20" or better yet a 15"

With the only yearly maintenance costs of 6 new plugs and a gear case oil change I guess one could also splurge for the cost of "black" spray paint and even a 'Blaster" prop.

The only thing i have done to my merc in 160 hours is 2 sets of spark plugs.......... she likes to give them yammies a lil woopin too ;)

Well if we can't help this new guy find something in a 20" in. soon he won't even need 1 set of spark plugs, and the only "woopin's" he'll be seeing will be from the far distant shore and that won't count when we have to tally real eye witnesses ! ;)

Have a 21super at the shop that is getting a new transom and the owner wants more power. Merc 250pro with warranty left and wing plate. You can demo the motor it's still on the boat? I would love for someone to take it and save me the trouble of putting it on a stand.

Getting back to the original question, yes, you can probably jack a 25" shft motor up high enough to get it to work. The bigger question is if you actually want to. Think about it. The heaviest part of the motor will be 5" higher than it would be with the more correct 20" shaft length. Do you really want something that heavy that far up in the air? Not real good for CG.
