I'm looking for a 18 pitch chopper for my boat. I've read a lot of forums and I tried to find some output on the different brands of choppers. The mercury chopper II is easy to find but i cant really find any comments on them. I've also heard about the old mini choppers. I've read a few comments and some guys said they are around 8mph faster than the chopper II. I am looking for great top speed and somewhat good hole shot. My setup is very light. Can you guys give me some input on what you know about different 18p choppers and the top speeds from them!!! Thanks Tyler!

I have had 2 of the old small ear 18's and both cracked. I have a 20 samll ear now and seems to be holding up just my experience. Rick

I ran an old 18 chopper from a 25 Merc on a 70 Nissan powered Voo Doo. Great prop, just not enough pitch for the power. My brother had it re-hubbed back to a 25 HP spline and it's on his 25 Merc TNT now. Although it's way faster than the with the aluminum prop he had before, the slip is way to high, so his set up is not ideal
The 18" 25 HP choppers come up for sale here from time to time. Ron Hill sells props for 25 HP motors on his Ebay store, so there's another option.
My usual recommendation is just buy all the props you want to try, and sell the ones that don't work out. You lose the shipping cost, but not much on the buying/selling. This approach sort of works for me, but I am slowly accumulating as I buy more than sell.
If you're talking V6, I'll just delete this post...
i have a 14 x 18 inline has a total of 30 min. run time total its cut into a dunamis hole shot is crazy... & has decent top end for a 18 pitch,on the right hull and horsepower they can be lots of fun, steve

So I finally got the new chopper 2 10.25x18 and it is unreal! Great holeshot and so Far my top speed is 55.1mph and still climbing! Not bad for a 30hp! My prop shaft is still 130 mm below the boat so I'm assuming I still have slot is speed left in it!
