Can some explain to me why Facebook, going public IPO, is worth BILLIONS of dollars? All I see is some stupid ad links, crap never needed or want. Is "mining" your INFO, worth BILLIONS to another? Insane, but WTF do I know?

I wouldn't give you a warm bucket of spit for a Buttbook account, but there will be a frenzy to buy the stock.

HA!...such a WORTHLESS waste of time, who think thats real life. Brainless idiots, playing some stupid game, and when the world awaits, for you outside, to explore?

Insane. I see on FB, some I know, asking for some.."need 4 more fence posts, HELP ME?". Yep, theres a "APP' for that! But not from me! FB is to me, soon going the way of old CB radio, fun at one time, found out useless babble, unless a trucker. Guess get the BILLIONS, while ya can, creating nothing.......

The IPO works out to $125 USD per user. - It's possible that they could recover that in click - through ad revenue over a fairly short period.
I'm not buying in, But it is an interesting study on modern human behavior.

It's all about advertising $$$$$ and the number of users! Something like Lowes, Sears, Homedepot, GM, Ford, etc think with their name on the side of a NASCAR makes you run out and purchase their products.

Got that right. Look at the stock of Goggle over the years. If ya get in the IPO, ya SELL FAST, while the stock rising. Stupid will buy ya out, see that "pot of (fake) Gold.

And see the ads for .."BUY GOLD NOW!" As its always gonna go up..NO way, "ITS AT THE TOP NOW!"

I remember when Martha Stewart went IPO, her BS whatever she pushed, selling WTF, I dunno. Just stuff, with her name on it? She went fast, in one day, a multi millionaire. Had it made, but wanted more, got busted, to jail..(the cushy part, where the white collar go too, and out in 6 months).

Have to say, this morning, in the rack watching some Fox news..don't remember what was the story, but about someone else. Monied..(probably some election crap), some one said, .."its like Martha Stewart, who has no friends in Connecticut, so she bought the state".

There saying what the hell his name, Zuckerburg, FB? Stands to be 19 BILLION RICHER? OVERNITE?

Greed, will take this country down, a lot faster than what thought....sad..but true..

Have to say, me, I care LESS, what some manufactures make, and pay MILLIONS, for a SMALL sticker on a a Nascar/NHRA ride. Been around long enough to know, who's real. If ya make a great product, word gets around A LOT, faster. My brother races Vintage , knows Vic Edelbrock well, meet him many times too, but have to say, as we know here, what works, last, whats junk, don't last long. Advertising is just that..."Quality later?"...gets the word out way faster, and cheaper too. Look at it this way, just what does anyone know, how much GIECO", does on ads/sponsor ship? Just who pays that?...(not me, I'm State Farm decades, ONE HALF cost, a Gieco quote")

It is the single most widespread social medium in the world. Not like a TV station, it covers every country and sector of society in one swoop. Advertising there is like being on every station and radio program in the world, as most users check it multiple times in a day.

I love F-book. It's a great way to stay connected and keep up on stuff with family and friends. I don't play games, join causes or click on pictures of cancer babies to raise money for emergency operations and that crap though.. There is a ton of garbage on there. You just hide the people who perpetuate it on a regular basis.

Plus, there is a hydrostream page!

I know where ya coming from, same me, heck, I check it once a day too. And, have to admit advertising is big biz. But, it still creates nothing in the long run, just selling stuff thats made and out there anyway. All advertising and cost involved, is in the price of the product. As I'm older and really need anything new anyway, and if it aint sold in town, or Amazon/Ebay, etc. I probably don't need it. But, its a big world, I mostly sit back and watch now, but still try and spend a hell of a lot more time in a chair with a throttle somewhere, than a keyboard! But still, "net" is entertainment to me, but thats only me. Some are little carried away, kinda reminds me of Peg, "Married with children", all day watching the "shopping Network!" HA!...lifes goes on, no big deal, just have fun I guess!

its really not all about advertising/data mining although that is the only economic justification. this is more about the lemming mentality that all but went away (except for google) after the first internet bubble- people paying rediculous prices for stock in a company with no or little substantiation. There will be little economic justification for the price, but its facebook, so i am guessing it will be 10, 20 maybe 30 x earnings. there is no common sense in this, however, just like google, lemmings will go running after it because it is facebook, or because people know lemmings will still go after it and they want to make a buck off of them. I know enough about it to know i dont know enough about it for it to make any sense. google came out at about 100/share, i just looked at it again a few weeks ago and it was in the $600+ range, and i still cant make sense of it... but i wish i would have picked up some at 100. I'll probably sit this one out too, and probably kick myself in a couple years.

It's cool to find people you lost touch with but the amount of banter that goes on from game results to political opinion turns me off. I use FB but prefer scream and fly - Everyone in here is talking about something I'm interesting in hearing about.

I think the FB investors really think they have the cat by the tail and are going to suck billions out of this deal, and looks like they will. I think people that used to run AOL back in their day are kicking themselves lol! Hard to say what will come of FB, I hate Apple but would love to own the stock they make solid products and they make money on them....imo a much safer deal than FB for example. If I wanted to buy FB I would wait for it all to calm down and the stock to stabilize then buy. Even if it went up at least I would not get burned in a frenzy.

Yep! Lets go back a bit here, Yahoo, came out with "Groups". And 9 years ago, an old HS friend called me. Lets start a old HS group/Yahoo.? Did, word got around pretty quick, hooked with many old school chums. Ended up in 2006, back in Illinois, a "all year, all known, .."Last Blast Picnic!". DAMN, great times. But now? Site is dead, all on FB now., but same stuff. Does anyone see what Yahoo is worth now? No one wants it, and does the same as FB.

Thing is, and I also lost a ton of money too during the bubble, "we all gonna be rich!"..now only in stocks that actually MAKE something, needed all. But THINK, was yer life better without a keyboard in hand, or a phone stuck in the ear? Didn't things taken more slowly, work out just fine, and we all came out alive? . "Whats changed?"

Nothing, but a new , gotta have, new "gadget"

I know many of my friends, with me on FB, and about 100+. NORMAL....NOT some I see..with 1000 plus "friends", and none really FRIENDS! Just a "pump the chest..some one finally likes me!"
I love my old school friends, but, when they post..and tell us .."well, I've had a long day, tired, going to bed and read a book now. See ya morning"....?

Facebook, turning already, into a "girl, Slumber, Cyber, Party. Be fun, too see that stock frenzie, to come.. I'm sitting sidelines here....

Yes, and they could have turned into a FB like nothing they had all the users. Instead nobody knows what they are now. Seems to me they are trying to make FB the same thing as AOL was with all the shopping and games and stuff they are trying to do. I hated AOL with a passion it was such a junky thing back then, don't like FB now, I hate proprietary stuff in general. FB wants you to get on there and stay in there....I remember when AOL had to put in a browser so users could get on the net lol.

Im buying Facebook day of IPO. Will it make money? will it be worth anything? It is popular though so what the heck. I to missed the google buy never thought it was worth anything same as Facebook. But what do I know. It is popular with kids so its gotta be worth something. Nothing makes sence anymore to me. So I find when I do the opposite of what i think things turn out better for me. How messed up is that!! I gotta start looking at who is making money and why!! You go into a store and if its busy, they make money. Why I ask? I still dont get it but obviously the store that has a line up does. So Ill just go with the flow to survive. Ill buy Facebook and see what happens. Maybe Ill loose a few grand maybe Ill make a few? If its anything like google was I may do OK. Biggest thing with IPO,s is waiting for the dust to settle a few hours after the open. The frenzy will ramp up and down like a YoYo so getting in during that faze you could pay way more than when things settle. Or ya just place an order to by at open if you even can. That way youll lickley get the opening price and forgo the large swings. Im sure the pre trading price might make it open higher who knows?

What I really like about it is it helps you find out about all those folks you wondered about if you moved away from your home town, or they did. Mostly people find me, I don't get into all the " Lj is at applebee's" kind of posts. To me that tells someone to come rob my house.

Now personally I think they have screwed it up with some of their "enhancements" but I think microsoft has done a good job of making their software more confusing over time too. It's like just when you get used to it, they go and change it.

I was on FB for a short time. Got tired of the ones that post everytime they go to the bathroom and all aspects of their life. Read the fine print. They own everything you put on there pic, conversations. To me it's big brother watching you. Ask those who got fire over comments on there. To top it off you can't remove all your info when you leave they own it. They put it in a dormant state whatever that means. All my info is there. Try it you will see.
