Looks like fun. The lakes are just starting to ice over but it may be gone in a couple days. It will probably be a month or two before I can get out again. This has been a strange winter but I ain't complaining.

I watch this chart for the white bass run around here -
http://waterdata.usgs.gov/usa/nwis/uv?04079000
The bottom graph shows the water temp, when that hits about 52 degrees - GAME ON!
...right now it seems to be stuck at 32 degrees

Well the WB run was a washout this year for the creeks down here in Houston. Solid month of rain and high water. Got some good fishing in the last few days! Caught 36 day before yesterday and 50 yesterday . Yellow Bass...Mmmmmm GOOD, good size ones to! Crappie and WB and a couple of Catfish. Got my boy out there with me a few days ago and put him on some good size Crappie! Everything is running a month ahead of time down here because of the mild winter. Gonna hit it again this weekend. Until then....back to that 4 letter word called work.... : (

I still remember catching well over 100 pounds of fish each time out off the Port Saint Lucie-Fort Pirce Fla. coast back in the early 80s. I haven't been back since but I here they put strick limits of your catch now and that you can't just pull up to the fish market and sell them?

XS, The YB don't have size or amount limits. Most the time the ones caught are so small most folks don't bother with them even though they are way better tasting than the WB. The YB above are actually very big this year. 9, 10 and a couple of 11" even and thick ! I throw the small ones back myself. Your right about people harvesting them to sell. I can tell you first hand that the Vietnamese down here are at every bridge catching way more than any family needs. Some come in groups and harvest several hundred a day so if it was up to me i would say Texas should probably put a limit on them for that reason alone
HD, sorry about your pops, sounds like you miss him and your fishing trips! Here is my boy holding his 2 big Crappie he caught a few days ago....Don't laugh at the gloves, he had taken a shower as soon as we got home...lol

Nice crappie! I can't wait for the white bass run to start up here, won't be until about mid-May though. Although the walleye run will start before the white bass

Here's me, my dad, and my brother after one afternoon fish last May -

Folks in NJ have issues with, illegals, as they call them, Strip Bass fishing with their four or five kids. We have a 2 bass limit, they can get as large as 50+ pounds though most are about 5-10 pounds, and these families often walk away from the beach with 8 or ten bass and only one fishing pole. this really tees others off. If the warden comes by folks will point this out but the warden says that they can't prove that the kids didn't catch the fish as the trash will just say that his kids caught the other fish.

Gesh, only in America.

A few years ago we had a house in Regensburg, Germany right on the Regen River. Gorgeous area and just a 30 yard walk through the bushes to water. Being such a Redneck it was too hard to resist so I dug out a spinning rig and a Rapala and headed down there.

A few casts later, my neighbor (with who I was on very good terms with and had them over for bbq) saw me and asked if I had a license to which I replied 'no'. I said that it was just a few casts and if I caught one, it would be released unharmed because my barbs were pressed in. He spoke perfect English and said that what I was doing was illegal and if the fish I caught died, it would be considered poaching.

Poaching? WTH? Thats a strong word man. So come to find out, all someone has to do here is take a picture of you in the act and turn it in to the police and you get slammed with a huge fine and possible jail time.

Ef-FFF the damn tree huggers so I left. Not worth it. Needless to say, he wasnt invited to any more bbq's. And this brother loved some American baby back ribs.

You wont after you eat them....They put the WB to shame in my opinion...

Yellow bass are a bonus fish for anglers in eastern Texas, a treat both on the line and, particularly, on the table. But many anglers know little about this smallest member of the "temperate bass" family, and some disregard, if not outright disdain these wonderful creatures. Most of that disinterest/disfavor hinges on the size of the fish — a 1-pounder is a big yellow bass.

15 and 3/4"s 2.4lbs on digital scale. My biggest this year ! She is a beauty! Her eyes measure almost 5/8"s across. She's still alive in my live well swimming around, the rest are already in the freezer :smiletest:
