My father in law decided to go against my opinion when he bought his first boat last spring and rented a boat slip on Lake Sam Rayburn which has a high lime concentration in the lake. I got his boat out for him this winter because the lake is so low it was in danger of being stranded on the bottom of the lake. The boat has a real thick scum on the bottom that I would like to get off, what would you suggest to use on this? I was told by the dealership to use diluted muriatic acid but I am not real familiar with this so it make me a little nervous.

Don't try that - get some regular old toilet bowl cleaner - I use "The Works", has acid in in and will take out the tanin stains a few minutes. Should work, or for lime try Lime Away if The Works doesnt do it. Both have acid just a in lower concentrations, be sure to rinse the trailer if any gets on it. The Works comes in a gel to, might be easier to smear around
