I just refinanced my house to consolidate debt and lower my interest rate (thats what I told my wife anyway, we all know the real plan heh-heh) was suppose to walk away with 28K cashout deal and a point and a half lower rate. All I could see was my new used Allison/280
Then at closing the Title company says "Whoops!!! Whatta we got here? Hmmmm looks like a 26K - 22 year old student loan Judgement/ Lien on your house:eek: (The principle was 10K).
Just settled the Lien for 17K after realizing it would cost more to fight it than to just pay the legally defective Judgement. Meanwhile, Big Corporate Executive Bankruptcy deptors run to Florida and dump millions of shareholers money into palatial mansions protected by Florida's unlimited Homestead protection laws, while the shareholders lose thier life savings. My heart goes out to these folks who worked so hard all thier lives to retire on thier stock investments and 401K's only to wake up at 60 years old and have to start all over again.......God help those poor folks.
So my wife gets a mini van to replace her 15 year old Volvo, the kids get a nice Christmas and you know what? I'm so greatful for all of my blessings. I've got my health, my wife & kids, my home and a Checkmate w/ half a transom........
Money will really distort your priorities sometimes. I needed a good prioity check anyway.
I'm truly blessed :D Who needs a stinkin' Ally anyway??
God is good...........
Let's not talk about the Feds for a couple days though OK?:p
Merry Christmas everybody!!!!!! Count 'yer blessings.

Right when we are at our zenith, just when all seems right with the world, the most awful things can crop up!
Oh well it's paid and off the books. The next check is yours.
I agree with all ya said. I look around me sometimes, I wish Kath had a new car, I wish I could replace some worn out furniture, The kitchen needs a make-over something bad....then I stop at the corner and see the street people begging for change....ya know what? I got a pretty good life! You got friends who care, a good family and a heart of gold...not much more ya need, well maby some marine plywood and a couple gallons of resin!
All our best to you and yours this Holiday Season!
He is the reason for the Season!

Save yourself some money and put it to good use.
Use polyester resin, and CDX ply...when it's all said and done, you won't know the difference, but your wallet will.
Take that money you just saved (more than half) and buy yourself, your wife or your kids something nice.:D

If I understand this correctly your house came with the previous owners unpaid student loan leveraged against your house? Correct? or do I need to thaw out my brain; its been below zero the last few nights!!!!!!!

Oh I could have had a nice new boat for what that student loan(s) cost me! But, what do you do? I did it, and now I got it. Would not have worked so hard for it if I was not paying for it anyway. So I have a little bit left yet, but I am happy as all...heck that 98% of it is gone and paid. Lot of weight lifted with that gone. Not to mention allmost that much on credit cards for books, food, whatever at the time. Those are gone completely. So I am out of the red now, and yes I have to remind myself often that many other people have payment books I don't!
Thanks for the reminder, and you all have some fine holidays too!
Now I put a transom in the Bayliner and it was not that bad, but did take a while.

You show up real well in that picture. Your very beautiful wife shows fairly well, but how 'bout one where we can see your biggest blessings a little better????????
God does take care of needs, and He and I don't let "wants" hurt either of us.
Great post.

gotta love it when you hear "whoops".believe me,i've had a 5 yr. run with the maryland comptroller saying i worked for an automotive repair shop in 1988 and owed 8 grand in back taxes.well you have to prove to the state you didn't work for a company, not like the i.r.s. that has to prove their case.so i wound up payingaround 3 grand. and i'm a roofing mechanic, not an auto mechanic. pissed but now its out of the way.just waiting to hear the next reason why i won't get a refund from them! but like scott said,i'm greatfull for anything i have today. 6 yrs ago i was just about ready to be one of those guys standing on the corner with the sign in my hand. alot of credit to ms bdd, thanks honey. and with the family pic, great looking family, have a great x-mas.and btw, looking at your kids, remember when the only worry was when the icecream man was going to be comming down the street:D

I am not positive, but I think that you had to have, and pay for, a title search when you bought the house. If that is true, then the firm that did the search is responsible for the lien. Wouldn't hurt to check it out.

Thats kinda where I was going to go but wanted to be sure I understood the circumstances. When we bought our latest piece of land the bank hired a lawyer to do the title search. He found a bunch of things that weren't right; the bank wouldn't pay until they were all up to snuff.
Food for thought
