The ski bottom is reported to be a few mph faster. The ski has not been produced for about the last 10 years. The mod vp settels faster to be able to slow down and corner for racing. Both are great hulls. The sprint is older and does not compare. The mod vp is the majority of the boats produced.

If you are shopping. I would be happy with a Ski or Mod VP. The comparision between the two really doesnt matter to most people.

i am not positive but weren't dixon's yellow/white boat and dennis vitolo's blue/white white (the top two boats at the high speed shootout) both mod vp's? I seem to remember wondering about this with hank's being the only one putting up big numbers that was a ski bottom, just can't remeber if my memory is correct. BTW, not suggesting the difference in bottoms had anything to do with what happened, just an observation.

I think that they just happen to be newer boats. Therefor mod vp hulls. Not sure if Triad ever built one with the ski hull, if they did it was likely a early one. Seems like the ski hulls boats I have seen were Roark or Carpenter boats. Didn't Jack cut up the ski molds ?

I've read on here also , about the Ski Bottum , being 1 or 2 mph faster then the Mod VP .
Yet , the Fastest STV's in the country have been Mod VP bottums .
I'd have to say , that one or two mph differance , found by people that have owned both wasn't so much the bottum . But that paticular boat , with the set up , and conditions , on that paticular day .

Dixon's Casper was a ski bottom. I have had both, and would like to have a ski bottom to drag race.
The Mod-vp bottom is easier to drive.
I always thought that the ski molds were converted to the modvp bottom.

The Ski bottom develops more lift, so it may be faster in the standard speed ranges. Definitely carries weight better (load). For hyper-velocities, I'd say the Mod VP would be better, as it doesn't generate as much lift, which would be a good thing at speeds well over where the boat was designed to run. This is why the Mod VP settles quicker and was the choice for actual racing where setting to turn left after a straight was desired. The Ski flies a little longer with the added lift.

Let Me get his right. So what you are saying Keith, is that a fat guy should get the ski version ? Wish mine carried weight better. Seems pretty sensitive.
Somewhere I read an exact pounds of lift at a certain speed. Not sure what hull it was, but remember something around 450 #. anyone else heard of these lift #'s calculated ?

LOL, exactly! :) My ski bottom PCS is a heavyweight at ~ 1800# with me and fuel, ready to hit the water. It rides nice, definitely smoother than the lighter boats, but still flies well due to the lift of the ski bottom.

I have owned both personally and ran both for years it;s almost impossiable to tell the difference in the two, Have ran both well into the 130;s with no issues, my current hull is the fastest i have owened to date at 137.2 mph with a stock sportmaster, not saying the others with the ski bottom wasn;t capable of that speed just didn;t have the setup dialed in as well. They are both great Hulls, I personally don;t think even the most seasoned stv driver if blind folded and dropped in each hull setup the same could tell you which hull he was driving, thats my thought on it, They both handle great and think when your at speed you really can;t tell the difference.
