View Full Version : Tagged?
Tagged. I assume it is some sort of social network but I know nothing about it and don't want to allow crap into my computer. I have been sent and email notification that someone wants to be my friend (I am so excited that I am finally going to have one) and I think he is from this site. I don't want to seem rude but I know nothing about Tagged. Anyone?

Tagged just means someone is including you in whatever they're posting. For example if we were at a restraunt and i posted it and tagged you, it would show up as " Laglass69 is at McDonalds with Rock"
Unless you're a Facebook user or member of another networking website, the "Tagged" emial you received is probably a spam bot, a computer-generated e-mail designed to trick you into clicking a link, which will likely do one of two things:
1. Tell the spam bot that you do really exist and that you're willing to click a link (so they can send you more spam in the future) ;
or...
2. Send you to a web site which will install a virus on your computer, turning you into a spam bot. ;)
NEVER click a link in an e-mail if you don't know who sent it.
Tagged is a social networking site based in San Francisco, California, United States, founded in 2004. Tagged allows members to browse the profiles of other members, play games,[3] and share tags and virtual gifts. Tagged says it has 100 million members.[4] As of 28 September 2011, Quantcast reports Tagged monthly unique users at 5.9 million U.S., and 18.6 million globally.[5] Tagged has acquired the social and instant messaging client Digsby[6] and the gaming application WeGame.[7] Michael Arrington wrote in April 2011 that Tagged is most notable for the ability to grow profitably during the era of Facebook.[6]
In 2009, Tagged was criticized for sending deceptive bulk email[8][9][10] and paid $1.4 million dollars in legal settlements regarding those practices.[11] The company has since adopted privacy reforms and changed its invitation processes.[12]
Tagged is an Inc. 500 company ranking #476 on the 2010 Inc. list of fastest growing independent U.S. private companies.
Above is what I know about Tagged. The person that sent me the request has a screen name with the word Allison in it which was why I figured it was a member of this site. I am leary of clicking yes as I don't want any more crap email/virus activity. I was hoping someone on here was familiar with them.

as stated above by pyro, if you donot know who sent the email dont open it, just going to a unknown website could infect an unsuspecting user, also called 'Drive By '
A classic tactic used by spammers is to emulate e-mails sent from legitimate sites.
