have spent some time modifying the water inlets on the 3 litre sportmaster on the 21 skater trying to get more water into it so as to be able to raise the motor higher, after watch the video i'm not gonna spend any more time on it, looks to be up as high as i can go without using a transom pickup. i also had issues w/ the water mist behind the cowling, after rerouting the water dumps and making the front of the cowl/faceplate like a 260 it seems to have solved the problem. you can see the tape/marks on the side of the jackplate so i know what the engine height is, speeds are 95 mph. you can see the prop in this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5omncGp8E2Y

Wow, there is a big difference between the two videos and it looks a lot better now.
I remember your old thread with the bottom video and all the water ingestion, very poor design.
How is your water pressure now its raised?

is that a 300x ?

i can get the nose of the case just above the water, any higher and it runs out of pressure. it seems as though i have the water ingestion issue fixed, i'll have to get someone to video from another boat. i can get the motor up another 1/4" higher then when i started after modding the gearcase. the engine itself is a modded 225 3 litre running wolf efi, the boat has been as fast as 98 mph, my next thing is props, the 3 blade et isn't ideal for this

here's the first video i saw of the boat where you can see the water in the back of the cowl http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKHd9Bct6sc

I found the only solution with water pressure is a external pick up, I would like to see the mod u did on the gear case, and what does Wolf do to your 225?

The prop will be a major difference, the boat looks great running good luck

i wonder what the gains would be with the pickup, its got to add some drag, would it be a wash or a positive gain? as far as the engine, the wolf replaces the factory ecus, and you can program it-they're used alot in automotive applications, you can modify the engine and change fuel and spark settings to it, unlike the merc stuff, and my mileage is way better- usually get 3.5 mpg on a typical outing

I dont use transom pick ups, the pick up goes on the bottom of the boat, the gear case pick up stays,

this boat had that originally as well, but they got rid of the pickup(or whatever was) on the bottom of the sponson, the hose is still inside the boat along w/ the thru transom fitting, what did you gain by running it?

The green boat is not a Trick, its an xtreme, I also has a 21 Skater with the same set up, once u install the bottom pick up you can put that motor anywhere u want and still have water pressure, I think with that type of setup and a 4 blade pro et you will definitly be going over 100mph

have you ever run with/without the pickup to compare the speed difference? i realized after the post you have an extreme, not a trick

I run a transom mounted pickup that only sticks down below the running surface 1/16". I was running out of pressure at 75mph now I have 20psi at over 80mph. I can take the engine higher offsetting any added drag which cant be much. 1/16" of the pickup has got to be less drag if I can raise my motor even 1/4" higher because of it.

How many water pickup holes do you have. ave you tried plugging the outer and just leaving a couple in the center? I helped me.

have u run it on dead calm water yet? ripples on the surface cost you water pressure when running it high from my experience

with out external pick ups you cant put the motor where it needs to be for the really big #s, Id love to see 100+ with a 225........

i haven't really sang it in flat water,i got to once on the suwannee in freshwater w/ a friend in the boat and 40 gals/fuel onboard, and went 97.5. next thing i'm gonna try is going thru the fuel map again, i'm sure i can squeak another couple of horses out of it and crack 100 w/ the 3 blade et. i also have the race hatch, but it seems like alot of aggravation to install

I helped me. i'll have to get some pics of it, basically the sporty has 3 holes/slots, i extended them 1/4" towards the skeg, then welded up the outside of the 2 outermost slots and sanded it to follow the contour of the case, the opening now on the 2 outboard slots is half what it used to be, and then basically redrilled underneath the welds so the slots basically look factory w/ a lip overhanging them to help trap the water

The ones i've seen are rectangular 1 " stainless box tube with a threaded bung welded to the top and flanges on the side for transom mounting . Slight 5 -10 deg. angle cut on the bottom for pickup . I would think very little angle would be needed for positive pickup .

tom, these are mounted and glassed thru the hull, and have a flange that bolts inside the hull, mine is on the stbd sponson, the flange/hose is still there, but no pickup

here's one from the port side, you can see the water ingestion issue seems fixed, also, according to the map sensor(i left one disconnected in the cowl) you see slitely positive pressure at hi speed, if you look at the front of the cowl you see the slot installed on the faceplate, and behind and slitely above there are 2 1.5" holes to let air in the cowl http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uS0CIkJsZa8&feature=player_detailpage
