Finally found an hour to throw the boat in with the brand new used TPS. Ran great, the off idle instant power is a bunch of fun, it leaves like a 26 even though its a 34 :D Had some camera trouble and it was getting dark fast but I still had fun. Man its nice to have it together and with a real trim system its even nicer. 4k is a bit over 60mph and you better be on the down button when you put it on the matt. It will have no issue pulling the 34 to limiter but I need to make a lil cone for my home brewed LWPU Magnum 2 case as it started feeling funny in the high 80s. No smoke, no loud idle, no wash down, 5+mpg beating on it I already forgot about ported stuff  I cant wait to get the big gear under it and do some set up. ;)
Heres a few shots

Thanks Tom, BTW the problem was 3 broken wires going to the TPS. They were broken due to the fact that it was one of 10 motors piled high on my truck. trailer from trenton NJ to Holiday FL for 1200+ miles at 75. The wires got pinched and snipped and left the chinese finger trap loom un-damaged so i couldnt see it:rolleyes: Figured that out at 4:00pm today while the boat was in the ramp at anderson :p. Thats what i get for rushing it together..... No that is a stock E-tec gear case with the factory water pick ups plugged and I drilled my own under the bullet. I have never seen anyone do the mod so i had no way to know if it would work or not but it had 10-15 psi all day on plane so i guess its working :D
Im gonna try to make alva but dont know got a lot going on :o trust me i'd love to go play and put some MILES on it :D

"right clicks, save image as" :D
Lookin good Kev, I hear you on the instant startup, lack of smoke, and quiet. I always liked my XRi motors for that reason, and a DFI is another world better than that. All of the nonsense of a modded motor doesn't seem worth it when you can get 90% of the performance with none of the drama out of a DFI.

Yea its a different animal. Even with a 5x4in exhaust snout you could about walk through it and its dead quiet at idle. As long as its in the lean burn mode its quiet and since its on plane at 1800-2000 its pretty funny when it goes to full burn its like you plugged 4 more cyls in and flipped the open header switch :D

its not that quiet up and running :p I stopped by lake shore and thought jeff might come down there but he was running somewhere so guess he didnt get back in time. We were gonna call but it was getting dark and we were all geting hungry.
Saw Vincent out there on the ski's with the kids, I was hoping to see your school bus turn the corner :D we need to get out before we head north for christmas.
It pulls pretty hard considering its a 34p prop and a 1786 hour power head :D

If we got out earlier we would have givin you a call I just wanted to see the thing go forward in the water, wasnt expecting to run it as hard as I did but I had to I jumped in with 2 feet on the hot foot :D . Whats sucks is I realized the dam throttle wasnt openeing all the way and I wasnt about to get my fat arse up under the console to adjust the WFO bolt on the hot foot. I was only getting 70% throttle...
We are heading up the end of next week. Are you guys heading to alva?

Way cool Kevin. Great project. Do you still have the 1.86's in it?
One of the reasons I sold all my hot rod funk a couple yrs back is I figured w/the new DI motors the hot rod stuff was done.
BTW, 1786 hrs ;)

Thanks, yes they are 1.85s but 1.62 alpha one Gen 2 is in the works ;)
I plugged these factory pickups and re-drilled/milled pickups under the propshaft centerline which go into the same cavity, then blocked off the stock side pickups (which i have never seen anyone else do.... ever). So this way there is no external water hoses and it had 10-20+ psi all day and the water pickups are as it is on a bobs cone  it doesnt seem to handle like the bobs did but the motor is in the nose bleed section so when its a bit lower it will handle much better and not have as much torque on the wheel during cruise (the 34 never helps that).
p.s. I havent hooked the laptop up to it since i yanked it but im sure its got 1788 on it after today :D

Beefs motor is not stock and is no slouch I have seen it turn over 9k and its been beaten like a circus animal for years. We need to spend a day ( or 10 ) on setup like we did on the action. It took a TON of time to get the action to leave and run how it did and we knew we were starting over with a different boat. Its got 100 in it we just need to figure out motor height, prop, jetting, setback, weight distribution, and get a good calm day with consistent conditions to get it sorted.

thanks bro, FYI they run much better when the 3 wires going to the tps are not broken and 1 in apart in the harness
Did you have Jack cut down the cowling and make it a two seater?
No, I should have this is the sawzall model that jack wishes did not exist  . I talked to jack about a new windshield (like the t-2) and a new rear cowling for the boat. My boat is the first capsule he ever built so now he is building the boat cowlings about half the weight of mine plus i want to get rid of the little hump to help make it look somewhat finished instead of looking hacked off like it is now  It made the boat much more practical, visibility is 10x better (safer) and now your ears arent ringing after 2 laps around the lake. I do have to figure out how to get the rub rail to seal cause if the boat is in the water its sinking... fast... I re-sealed the bolt holes with 5200 a while back but when the boat gets pained im going to do away with the rub rail where its under water. I know these boats arent glassed together since you cannot reach the inside of the rub rails so Im gonna talk to jack and see what he thinks. :leaving:
I need to move the battery and fuel tank forward ~3ft because with it full of 12 gals plus oil tank and battery it sits like this and I only have a bout 15mins before its on the bottom

Keven , The newer T1 boats are glassed togaither , from the out side , in the area , that is under water . Then the rub rail in installed . So save your rail , and put it back on after you do your glass work , Then sandwich 5200 between the rail and the screw holes . That's how we did the Red , with Yellow Tear Away , Super Sport T1 . It never leaked again . It could sit in the water all day long .
Good Luck , and Play Safe !!!

Rich I wish you told me that at Suwanee! I know Sam's yellow and red drag boat doesnt leak one bit but since its 8 years newer then mine I figured mine needed some major surgery. I have to talk to Jack about a new windshield and making a new rear cowling so the boat looks decent/finished but its only limited by $$$ right now :o

I remember towing that boat home from cumming Georgia to Jacksonville and man that thing is as pretty as it was when it was here on lake tarpon years ago. Thats a great boat it won a bunch of races. Im gonna try my best to make this one leak proof also

Little update, we slung a blade on the ron hill 34 so I just picked up a 15x34 hydromotive (thanks Speed Jr.). I didnt realize it when I rigged it but the motor was 2.5 above with only 6in setback so I lowered it to ~1 above before we went out on the lake yesterday. The new prop is nice, cruises great but this old 1788hr box stock 200 swiftly whipped it to the 6250 limiter. It was rough yesterday on the lake so only got a couple short blasts in and it pulled it to the limiter in no time. I had my phone on GPS for one pass and it went 85 at 5-5500 before i had to let out for a wake that had me puckered up
Hopefully get out for a blast this week and sit it on the limiter for a proper pass, then it will come apart for the 1.62 case. Considering how fast it pulls the 34 to the limiter with the 1.85 and hudge M2 case I'm positive it will pull the 34 1.62 strait to the limiter also. Not bad considering its running on 87 octane with 1800 hours ;)

I am surprised that I burned about the same amount of fuel as my buddy's 2.4 carb on his mirage  I had a bit more than him at the end of the day. I had enough to tow him 500 ft to the ramp when he ran out and then run 3 miles back to the ramp I put in at. I am shocked because I was expecting to get 2-3 times better mileage then beefs ported carb motor but im getting the same mileage
Looks like I have put around 4 hours on it in the 3 times I have had it out

Glad you like the prop...When you do make a full pass (under the limiter you go faster than on it) let me know what it was. With the 1.85 you should be around 100 at 6100. The 1.62 should be a blast.

It was too rough on the lake to stay wide open long. If I was wide open I wouldnt be complaining. 4500 is 60-65 and thats too fast when theres 10 wakeboard boats with 4ft rollers following them.
Glad you like the prop...When you do make a full pass (under the limiter you go faster than on it) let me know what it was. With the 1.85 you should be around 100 at 6100. The 1.62 should be a blast.

I will have to pay attention to that. I have an old OMC tach in it and when it gets up around 6k it starts going crazy and reading 7k some times it goes to 6 oclock. Its the easiest way to tell when its on the limiter :p
You get it geared right....??? 138,380,000 revolutions?   Could it have a bit of leak down? ;)
1.62 is going under it soon, I'm modifying a $200 alpha Gen II lower unit with a 13 spline adapter I paid way too much for on ebay ($80) :p.
You short changed the old girl 30 million, its 168,380,000 still has 130-135psi just like my 400 hour, 06 200HO on the deck boat knock on wood http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww173/prestonjjrtr/Smileys/15_10_2.gif. Serial number on the block matches the mid and EMM so its never been replaced and the crusty head gaskets suggest its never been apart. I keep telling my self I need to tear it down for new pistons before the pins make an escape

Took it out for its monthly beating Saturday, ran good after bobby jumped in the water and pulled a hand full of weeds out of the pickups :D
I dont know if the wind was messing with it more then it usually does or it could be due to the motor being lower and it was trying to get on top of the case. Almost acted like it was doing a china wok . Still pulled the 34 to the limiter when ever i could find some clean water. I need to get it out more, the plam trees, leaves and dirt are starting to take longer and longer to blow off :o
Heres a few crappy cell phone pics...

Just to keep my log going, 1795 hrs 7 minutes 36 seconds on it when I ran it out of gas at lake jackson. The more recent hours are much harder then its previous life :D
I have been blaming an acceleration issue on the motor for a couple months now but its looking like its a problem with the boat not the motor. Hope to get some testing in once the dam wind stops, only way to tell is to test.....

No, not yet you know how it is the toys always get pushed to the back burner  Once I figure out the issue with the boat I might put one on it. I will keep you posted
