Early exhaust had corners that were not as rounded. I built a carb one years ago that got fitted with the new exhaust and rectifier stayed in the block.
How come some late EFI's were built with the original exhaust?

For a production/fishing motor, you can start with a 20" offshore and have someone like Monty or Jack Barsh cut it down to 16" for you.

They cut down the stockers to 16" cuz any shorter and you loose the trim pick up points. Shorter than that and much more engineering is required.

Have you seen the rules and regs you need to comply with nowadays to break this record? Possibly upped soon by another V8 in the near future.

You need to post the OMC 2ltr stuff on Jackies thread as he thinks no such engine existed
Maybe post the photo of Renato behind his engine with the cowl off showing the bendix injection.

Nerstrom says the first V-6 looper came in 1976. Hi John you need to persuade Nerstrom into writing that book about his time presiding over the race engines and his good development work at the OMC Factory.I do believe the first 2.0 looper was used by Cees Velden to win the 1975 ON World championship at Cardiff. The next time I saw the 2.0 Loopers race in Europe was in 1976 at the next ON world championship my good friend South African Bill Badsey ran with one in this race and had a serious blow over in his Cougar cat he broke his back was hospitalised and checked himself out after a week bought 3 tickets on a Jumbo to carry his stretcher on and had to pay a nurse to accompany him back to South Africa. The good news was he was back racing in Europe within 6 months. In 1977 the factory race support changed to the larger OZ engines and that was all we used from 1977 on.I am posting this on my cousins site as mister h my own site will not recognise my own password.Good to see you still keep up to date on this site.--- regards Steve Pinson. Have posted more piccis of that Cougar cat from my previous post.

Interesting because the red #16 Molinari boat is using one of the first OMC 3 liter, looper V6 with fuel injection and Johnson RS cowling.
The drivers of the #16 is Johnny Sanders and Jimbo McConnell.

In Australia during the 1970's, the CC always kept the Merc boys on their toes.

Yes FMP, I certainly did race in Australia. I raced short circuit, marathon, and offshore in the following States: South Australia, Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales. Not all with the same boat of course, some of my boats had Black motors and some had White motors. I chose the brand of motor which best suited the class I was racing in at the time.
My good friend raced Merc 850 (on V boat), Merc 650XS (on tunnel) and OMC FR19S-CC (on two tunnels).
Guy.
Did you race against Peter ?

Frank, I was involved with boat racing between 1973 and 1982... or 83. I knew quite a number of racers named Peter. Smith, Dean, Morley, Winks, Evans, Bradley are just to name a few, do you know his surname or perhaps the name of his boat? Kindly send PM, I really don't feel this conversation belongs on this particular Thread.

I think the future is to fit Merc 3.0 ltr sportmasters I've been reading up what I can about installing 2.5s Merc lowers but haven't found anything about installing 3.0's and wonder if that's a better fit given the bigger water pump.
Any tips, suggestions or ideas on where I can go to learn more would be greatly appreciated

Yes dont go with 2.5 or you will be chasing low water volume issues.
Baja200Merk on here has done lots of conversions.
You can install etec 300 boxes as well, I have one from Racer on a V8

Ditto.
Ive done a couple 2.5 sporty to V-6 looper conversions.
You need the 3.0 version though. They are even easier.
You can also get 1.62 gears which I put in my 2.5's but way easier in the 3.0.
And yeah, talk to Kevin.
