For those of you who have had some of the better known people cut your steel bore blocks (port timing) post what you had
done (260 specs ect) and who done it with a ballpark price. Thinkin bout sendin mine off if the price is right but can do it myself.

You should start with a 1996 to 2003 block. If not it will take alot more work.

You are a not to far of a drive from Mike at Outback. He is as good and honest as anyone I know of. Don't always go by price. You can send your stuff off and get screwed more often than not but it is cheaper the first time. It's not just port timing if you want it to run the exhaust has to be cut also. "If you put more air in the chimminey you need a bigger chimminey" "Jr Eaves" If I were in your shoes I would send it to Mike and then go pick it up and have him show me what he did and why. I would also take the pistons and heads and take his advice on what to do with them. Hope it works out.

Thanks guys. Guess I should have put in the first post that the exaust is already cut out. When I put this motor together two years I had planned on doing the port work but ran out of winter time and needed something to get me to the beach on the weekends. Anyways slapped it back together with all the stock pistons that needed to be oversized and it finally drug one of em a couple months ago. Also running a 7 petal front with 260 reed blocks and 150# compression.

If U are runn'in carbs, dump tha 7 peddle front for a 5 peddle with a 1" spacer!!...see'in U only runn'in 150#s ov squeeze, I figger U are use'in tha mota for a river mota more than a race mota, if so, tha 5 peddle front will out do tha 7 peddle on tha river, even wit EFI.....U may give up a mile or 2 on top end, but tha gain on tha bottom/mid will be more than worth it!!!...JMO

When I changed the intake to 7 petal I did notice some lag off the line but once it gets above 2 grand it pulls alot harder than before. The exaust was cut like a drag block and intake changed at the same time so I honestly don't know which one made the difference. I broke in the new rings with stock heads and it seemed slower than stock motor but when I changed the heads it really woke it up alot more than before the int/ex changes and just heads. When all is said and done its probably gonna have a bit more that 150 psi so it'll take up the slack of the 7 petal. Btw guys the price is not really the decision maker cause if I send it off I want it done right...just wanted to hear any past experiences of a similar motor build. If I want to do it cheap I'll do it myself but I realise the amount of time it will take me to get it right since I don't port motors for a living. Thanks for the help guys.

Hey Johnboy! It was good seein' ya out at the Redneck Riviera last weekend. Hope you have good luck gettin' back out with the 'Stream this spring. Looking forward to stretchin' it out--Vegas VS Viking to see who comes out on top, just for kicks. Later, Rick.

I'm gonna try to get it goin by spring so I can break it in before the weather gets good. I can bout tell ya that ya V King is gonna out run me on the top end but I'm gonna spank that ass for the first 1000'. My buddy had a Vegas XT with the same motor as mine besides his bein EFI. My V-bottom Vegas would out run him by about 2 boat lenths in the 1/4 but once he got it streched out he'd pass me like i'm standin still. Oh yeh everyone on the island the other day could have swore they were hearin a hopped up Merc coming round the corner. They coudn't believe it was a Rude. That thing sounds dam good for a big block Looper:cheers:

Yeah Johnboy, I did take notice last time we were out that the Vegas goes like lightening off the line. It almost makes me not want to try to catch up:eek:. Oh well, maybe I'll see you out today, I'm heading down about 12 or 1 o'clock. Have a good one, later, Rick
