My questions are on the nosecones added to outboard engines and jackplate/setbacks etc.
First... At what horsepower or speed is a nose cone worth adding to an outboard engine ?
i.e is it worth adding to sub 50mph boats ?
Secondly ..would a jackplate with a set back be beneficial to a 13 foot orkney dory
(same shape as boston whaler classic 13 )... ?
I am also wondering if by fitting a jackplate to the boat with set back, would it lower the
"recomended" maximum horsepower rating of the boat ?.
The makers have a recomended horsepower rating of 50hp on the orkney dory 4 metre with
5 persons and 100 kilo of other stuff.
My thinking is that with a jackplate with set back, there would be less engine in water thus
creating less drag when planing and that would mean less strain on transom !!!!!
BUT the initial pull away (holeshot) would be putting more strain on transom ?
