X2! But keep in mind that weight will be a big enemy of this setup. The small displacement/low torque of a 2.5/245 will really lose speed when you add passengers/fuel. I wouldn't be surprised if breaking 80 mph would be difficult with 4 full size adults and 50 gallons of fuel on board.

I say mid 80's, not sure it will hit 90!! Weight is a very big factor on cats like mentioned above!!
I had one with a warned up 245 and the best I saw was 88. 15" 3.0L would be a better choice but since you have the 2.5 go with it! I think you will be happy with it.

It handles the 2.5 very well! I had 2- 21's. One with 2.5 245 and the other 2.4 BP.
Make sure you get some seat time, take your time learning how to turn them and you will have an awesome 21' boat. You will not need to worry about going over a fair chop.
They like to run hard and on top of the chop!!

That's cool! If you ever want to take it for a spin to get a feel for the ride let me know... Was out yesterday, crummy day but nobody on the lake and was nice running 90plus to Gainesville and back south.

In 1991, powerboat tested a Douglas Skater 21 with a 2.4 liter EFI merc V-6 (rated at 240 cranshaft hp). The test boat had a Mazco 14.5x29 Mazco three blade round-ear. Hull weight as test was 1900 lbs and top speed was reported to be 86 mph. The report states that “the boat is sure, amazingly predictable and solid….”
