Hi All,

Relatively new to the forum and was looking for a little info and advice on repower/conversion from an older Evinrude Sport 200 crossflow to a 2006 Mercury Optimax. I know I need to purchase new controls and a remote oil tank. Also thinking about going with smartcraft gauge. Application is an older outboard ski boat and I'll be doing the install and rigging myself. Can anyone help with what the basic components will cost and where best to purchase them? Are there any special considerations for things like fuel line size? Battery requirements? Also any help with part numbers etc for controls and the oil tank would be helpful. Looking for a side mount throttle/shifter, cables etc. I have experience with installation of Merc.s in the past (2.5 EFI one speed boat) but this is a new animal for me and I don't want to make any avoidable mstakes.

Thanks a bunch!

One thing I know, is if you have an electric trim gauge, it won't work with the Merc.

Straight forward conversion. Bolt the Merc on. Install Merc controls. Guages are harder. Tachs and trim gauges will give some problems depending upon the brand. A universal tach can be set on the back of the gauge. The trim gauge will have to be replaced with a Merc compatable one. I am not sure about electic guages that hook up to your OMC harness such as - well everyting electical like WP, WT, Volt. WP of corse is a must but if it is mechanical NP.

I am no expert on Smartcraft but I do know it is pretty much plug and play from a Merc control box.

Good luck and welcome to the Merc world. You will not be disapointed.

Thanks a bunch Guys,
Fortunately, I believe I have at least a trim gauge from the old days. One thing that occurred to me but I can't remember was when I converted my last boat from Johnson to Merc 2.5, the trim pump was remote. Do the newer (06) merc.s utilize a remote trm pump? If so I'll need to pick one of those up as the motor I'm buying is simply being lifted off the old boat for an upgrade to a 250 XS.

Any one have recommendations as to the best place to pick up some of this stuff? Oil tank, controls etc...
