Merc Phantom Black (should be worth 2mph right?). Best rattle can paint I have ever used.
400, 600, 3 coats paint, 1000, 2000, rubbed by hand with compound.

I have not found any better than the Merc paint, goes on so smooth and glossy. They make a clear that is real good as well

Looks real nice. Do the silicon plugs come out fairly easy when its time to change lube?

Yes. I run an exacto blade around the edge and pop it right out.

I haven't had luck with the phantom black merc rattle can paint holding up. It seems like the end of every season I was repainting the lower.

The best luck I have had so far in rattle cans is the gloss black engine enamel that you pick up at any auto store.

Even better than that is spraying urethane auto paint in gloss black.

Dupont Imron, although deadly stuff to use, is hard to beat for painting motors.....

Dupont is the best but I have a tough time getting my hands on the stuff now due to the low voc regs.

The Merc paint does spray out in a nice pattern compared to other brands. Makes it level out really nice. On just about every OMC engine that I have had, I paint the lower units Phantom Black and put a small red pin stripe just above the seam on the exhaust housing. I always get asked if that is some special edition engine. The contrast is really good on a white engine.
