Mike Gielser would be the guy to talk too. He ownes both an SS Comp for I think 5 years and a Grandsport for around 10 years. He could give you some good info. My opinion on your question doesnt have to do with the boat, it has to do with the owner. A lot of people on this site seem to get a different boat every year or two. It seems to happen with all types of boats, not just comp SS's. I think the SS is a sweet ride personally.

I LOVED my ss & miss it quite often.. Fast & ride well in a chop.. My only complaint was they are a little difficult getting the family in & out of @ the sandbar.. Other than that, you wont be dissappointed if its set up right...

Grand Sport with a 260 will do 106mph seat 5 easy Ive had 6 in mine two were under 12 years old. LOADS of storage and handels rough water extreamly well for a 20 fter.
Super Sport with a 260 will do 110-115mph depending on nads. Seats 4 not ever 5. Storage but less than the Grand Sport. Lighter by 150-300 lbs dapending on race, comp or lake setup from factory. 110 for the comp models and 115 for the few rare really light ones made for drag racing. handels just as good as the Grand Sport if not better in the rough. They have a little sharper entry and not quite as wide stern so slice well also threw waves even though there lighter.
Both will never rought as there is Zero wood in these hulls. Full 100% composite inside and out.
Why would some one sell there SS sooner than a GS? Guys I think look for a little more seating copasity is all. Some guys I know sold theres to get a single seat RR because 110+ wasnt enough for them. The Allison RR hits 120mph no problem with a S3000 or stout 260.
I love the look of both. But I have a wife and two kids so the GS is perfict for me. If I was single or the kids were all grown up I would want a SS with a 260 or 280/ 260 electronics. I like the look of the SS a little more than the GS personaly. But the GS is more practical for the family. I would want a side steer SS not so much a CC because with a passanger its nice to have them beside you not behind you. As a second craft I would go CC for solo running for sure. i would probably go River Rocket as a second solo craft though.
I would not buy another GS with a 225 unless it was really suped up though. Knowing what i no now the 260 is the perfict power for a GS or a SS for that matter. Once I made my investment of buying the GS with a 225PM its hard for me to afford another motor now. i would have bought a 260 when i had the money in the first place. Once the kids get a job and I have more money for my self a 15 inch 260 is the bomb!!! Also Darris is in the making of a 23ft Allison GS that a newer 300XS can go on. That will be my next boat and last boat I will ever buy. I will keep my Grand Sport also and give it to my son when that time comes.
So I would figure how many of your buddies you take out or if its just you and a women Kids? That is the main desition point for the differance between the two I would say. That and the fact that the SS has 10mph on the GS with a 260. 6-8mph differance with a 225. An SS with a 225PM will do just over 100. The GS is 93-96 for most at sea level.
A SS with a 260 will out accelerate pretty much any other boat exept another Allison with a 260 to 100.

What kind of boating are you planning on is the big thing i will never sell my all grandsport because it is a great lake/ski /fun boat with a a 280 or 260 100-106 mph with a promax 95-101 mph as for the ss i own a comp great for racing and river riding the ride differnce is very noticeable between the two gs is way faster and smoother in rough water but in smooth water the ss hauls a$$ if you have a questions you can pm me

I've had my SS for 8 years and it isn't going anywhere soon, maybe ever. It gets used for cruising with family (4 max, I have a spare boat for more), skiiing, fast runs, and just driving around.
Thanks for selling it Rick, if you read this:)

I've had several of each through the years. I know guys who still own the SS I sold them brand new back in 1998. The comps are a little different because those are geared more toward racing and we racers tend to keep boats for shorter periods of time because we'll change classes, etc. I wouldn't worry about it. That's one of the beautiful things about owning an Allison is that if it's maintained properly, it should last a LOOOONNNNGGGG time.

I had my SSr for 4 years and loved the boat. I sold it because it was hard to get in and out of and the wife was terrifide to ride in it. So I bought a drag to solve the problem. The SSr would run 110 on a good day and get there pretty quick. I think that a GS is a much better family boat than the SS, not quite as quick or fast but still a solid performer and you can get the family in and out of the boat much easyer.

I had my SS Comp for about 6 years loved the boat the only reason I got rid of it was to get a bigger boat since I live on a big lake that would get windy and rough. The speed and ride were awesome loved the boat. But like it was said before the search for more speed would lead me to a XR 2001. I think a GS in more family friendly then a SS if it just you and one other the SS is perfect. My wife hated sitting behind me there for hated the boat and that's why my Alli got the name the "the ex wife calls it the devil boat".

Hears one more thing to Ponder.:D I think you get the picture on the SS/GS. Now if you like Fishing the almost exact same reasons for an SS or GS apply to a XB2003 over a XB2002. Power to speed, seating, rough water ability, And looks are also not the question as these two hulls also compare in the sick department. Ill have to admit there has been many days I wish I had a 2003 or 2002 to fish with and still maintain 100+++. Allison has you covered no matter what type boating you decide on exept Off Shore but thats comming soon in a mild form but Fast!!.
