Well welcome to S&F,first off you will need a digital volt meter with a peak reading adapter. Or a peak reading volt gauge like the stevens CD-77. With a ohms meter you can check the ign coils and stator and trigger, but you realy need to check both ohms and peak reading voltage to be sure. You can buy a peak reading adapter from CDI, it comes with a sheat that tells you how to hook up and http://cdielectronics.com/readings for most motors built. You can find trouble shooting at there site. Good luck, any questions let us know. Just to let you know stators and switchboxes are the #1 problem with mercs, ignition coils and triggers are fairley reliable.

Pretty good chance it's not a switchbox since the problems are on 1, 2 and 5, different sides of the motor.

Still need the adapter, guy can guess all day long do the proper tests and replace the proplem component. Can spend a ton of money otherwise.
