what yhappened to your viper thread it's gone???

________________________________________________________________________

I won't play the game you want to play.

What yhappened was I was hoping to help solve the problem I feel responsible for for a new member and get him established here but you witty freakin internet boating legends have made it impossible.

I ain't your new 'Snakebit'. If you want to have sex with yourself, knock yourself out.

If any of you respond anymore, do it here, not in my PM. Whatever you send there will come here.

Chris, Pyro will be along soon with another link to the thread that started it all. Please read more than the particular post he links to. It is too long a story to tell and I'd rather let the thread speak for itself.

The thread started with some good info I thought.... but went from a positive discussion to bad to worse....Some mechanical issues were brought to light and some solutions suggested. Hopefully the owner will sort it out, and get it runnin like it should, safely... I wish him the best of luck with it.

and figured it got deleted, for some reason.

The deal is, we love our Hydrostreams. Bernie overhauled a '75 Viper a few years ago. He asked questions, got some good, accurate answers from knowledgeable boaters, but only took the advice of a limited few. Important setup factors were left un-addressed, despite warnings from those who knew better. The steering was sloppy due to a worn-out helm. The motor was too low, aggravating the handling situation. Several of us recommended fixing the steering first, then raising the motor to improve handling. Bernie's response (in the "disapoointed" thread linked below, page 8) was...

When I can control it at 6K I'll start to go up 1/4" at a time.

ONE Hydrostream owner (nice guy, but again, just ONE guy) had installed trim tabs on his Vking (not even the same boat) and reported that it helped his handling and reduced porpoising. Instead of heeding the advice on props, gearcases, steering, and motor height, Bernie got a set of trim tabs for his Viper, and to this day, the boat still does not handle right. 1BadAction recommended that the bottom be checked for straightness. Capt Insane-o recommended trying a different gearcase, and made some other smart recommendations. Transomstand got pushed over the edge by a certain stubbon attitude that kept bringing the discussion back to the trim tabs. All those members' helpful efforts were a complete waste, since Bernie has now deleted the entire thread containing all that good advice. Here's the older threads outlining the boat's history since 2007...

There are a lot of people who ask for advice and inspite of getting feedback from people who have "been there, done that" refuse to take the advise becaue its not what they want to hear. These types of people are ones that like to think they know it all. Well if ya do, why waste peoples time asking for advise. Makes no sense to me.

Sorry you got your feelings hurt Bernie.
Many folks not only think they are responsible to give some one advice, they also think they are responsible for your reactions to there advice. That pretty much means they will be unhappy since it is pretty difficult to control someone elses actions or reactions.
Is it really only November?

I know Ronnie and transomstand personally and I can assure you they both know what they are talking about and are always willing to share advice and help out on projects. I am proud to call them my friends. While I have never met Pyro face to face I have spoke with him on the phone discussing musical instruments because he was willing to offer his advice. The advice is on the table and it is up to you to chose whether or not you wish to take it. Sometimes great advice hurts to hear it but it is what it is.

I remember the thread where he posted the "when I can control it at 6k I will move the motor up 1/4in at a time". I remember someone saying - You've got it backwards, move the motor up THEN you will be able to control it at 6k.

There were so many people trying to help giving good real-world advice just to get ignored after someone suggested putting tabs on it like its a flats boat or a CC  I posted on that thread a few times refering to my 'stream and action (not the same boat but both pad vee). BOTH of those boats were absolutely un driveable with the motor too low. You could never get either to fly strait. On the stream I had a hyd plate and once I bumped it up a few notches the boat hopped up and drove like it was on rails.

The reason? Because of arrogant holier than thou ass holes like you, who call out everyone else for doing the exact same thing that they themselves do all the time. Your ego must be the size of Detroit, you are constanty online telling everyone on here how they should live their lives, yet in person you can't even control your own. There is a ****storm of drama on this site right now, and oddly enough, you seem to be in the middle of it. It seems to cycle with you, anytime in real life you are happy, you actually come off as a normal nice guy on here, right now must be one of those times someone is running your ass into the ground.

You state that you don't have the time. Bull****. You are on here constantly.

Now that that is out of the way, many people I posted some thoughts and quick checks that they could do on that yellow viper BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN IN THAT EXACT SAME SITUATION, but like always, the advice wasn't even given a second look. F it, do whatever you want, learn the hard way. Good day.

I checked out the original threads pertaining to this boat.

Joe, you take every opportunity to flame me.
Why didn't you help Bernie out with his boat when you had the chance?

1BadAction... You made ONE post in the trim tabs thread. ONE:

I always love when people with ill-handling boats give setup advice, then proceed to tell the guys with good handling hulls how wrong they are.
Nothing condescending about that post...

When you tried to explain the situation with your old 'Stream, it went in the trash when the thread got deleted, so your last-minute effort was futile.

Mirage243... You didn't give a rat's ass about trying to help out Bernie or John. You only seem to show up when there's stones to be thrown.

It's no wonder transomstand and others are annoyed. He's tried to help with this boat all along, only to be second-guessed.

I was actually talking about the one that got deleted a couple days ago. I seen waterwings had brought up the ill handling POS Vector that I had, but didn't get a chance to reply until I did. Then my reply along with all the other great information got thrown in the trash, which I guess is just as well considering that they weren't listening anyways.

Keep on blaming everyone else for your own shortcomings, their parents abusing them, drinking, etc etc. It speaks volumes to your character, or lack thereof.

See? It really sucks when we make a genuine effort to help someone out, only for our efforts to be wasted. This is why everyone was so annoyed with this whole project to start with. This is the root of all the attitudes that spawned fron these discussions.

Okay, so what have we learned from this?

1. If you ask for advice on a public forum, you are going to get some replies you might not agree with. You don't have to follow someone else's directions even if they are knowledgeable and experienced.

2. If you give someone advice and they chose not to follow it, oh well. That's on them. You are not obligated to help anyone unless they are actually paying you for your service.

3. There's no reason for an "I told you so". If said person chooses not to follow your advice and they continue to have problems. You put in your two cents and it's up to the advice seeker to choose to listen or not.

4. If Joe is actually drunk behind the keyboard, I'm jealous as hell because I still have over 3 hours to go at my crap-hole lawnmower shop and I could really go for a Jack and Coke right about now.:p

I sincerely hope no one here is blaming Pyro for the "thread in question" getting pulled. While I don't have any way of knowing, it was, most likely MY post that ended it. It was VERY BLUNT, and probably not received well. The thread was gone within a couple minutes of my post.

It should have been left to stand on it's own merit, and remain in context.

I doubt there is anyone here who has the time to rehash this entire situation from the beginning, and if you did invest the time and energy to put it ALL in context, you need to get out more.

On a serious note, Chad, my comment about Mirage243, Jphil, and 1Bad being heavy hitters and saying "It Sucks To Be Pyro" was meant in a way that I would not on my best day want to "Internet Tangle" with that bunch.... and IF I came across as throwing stones or flaming you, I apolagize, honestly that's not what I meant.
Just my opinion, I would not intentionally try to stir the pot with Bill, look at his reputation level on this site, one of the highest there is, whether you agree or not, he has been helpful to many yet manages to fly under "the Look what A good Guy I am" Radar ...speaks volumes to me !!

Not to stick my nose where it doesn't belong, but I honestly thought there was a lot of great information in that thread. I had even posted saying so, and to keep tabs on anything else that may have come out of it. I don't own a Viper, but a bunch of suggestions made will certainly help me out with my Vision next year. I have to agree with a few of the other posts here that say any advice you offer should remain as that, advice, not instruction. If the one asking for help chooses not to listen, oh well, you tried. But don't forget, you may have just helped someone else out without even knowing it.......
