Herad that a V8 Mercruiser can use a 140 degree thermostat, I thought it was 160 but was told that the 140 is better as I run a lot of WOT and will have the boat propped for around 5K rpms. Someone put a higher temp therm in it, it's running 175, think he said the parts dealer said its a 170 degree therm..

If you are running hard a 140 is okay your temp will still probably maintain 160. Like Captain insane asked carb or efi, sometimes efi
richens and leans with temp. .02

Its a 4 barrel carb. and it uses external water to cool, I'm assuming that with the 77-80 degree bay water, summer max, I could use the 160 degree as it would, the direct water feed, would have a faster response compared to running with the coolant and the heat exchanger tank? But then the closed system is under pressure I think, well then that would mean there's more heat, latent heat, in the coolent? Not sure if that enters into the mix of things?
