it is mostly weight. and some "CUTS" require removal of the cutters.

I had to remove them on a couple props to clear my blowout ring, I swear the props are not as good.

Thats why I had to remove them, the reason to remove them was to clear removable blowout rings.

Some motors they would hit the carrier! So I just shortned them.
They should clear the carrier just fine if you use the correct thrust washer. There is usually a hollow spot in the casting inside each cutter fluke. This makes it tough to cut off the extensions without also trimming the leading edges beyone the base of the hub.
