can outboard rods be shotpeened? i know typically w/ automotive rods after they get shotpeened they are resized, whereas w/ an outboard rod you can't do that.

Yes they can. The critical part is to make sure they don't take the white metal coating off the big end thrust face. It also pays to linish them first on a belt sander to remove any casting imperfections.

IMO I'd choose cryoing the rods over shot peening . Safer around needle bearing surfaces...
